Hey Brian, just want to let you know that your hard efforts are well appreciated.
It was fun last night at BME to see a bunch of new faces. It looks like there is going to be a good turn out.
I hope I can get there by 1:00 at least.
Keep up the good work, so we can all

Thanks for the kudos. All the hard work is worth it to see all you enthusiasts in one place enjoying yourselves.
Spoke to Voytek and he likes these sessions so we're probably having it once a quarter. How's that sound?
Hmmm, the Aloha 500 on July 26th, another rally or and island drive in the fall, maybe a track day w/ SCCA, a karting day. Looks like we're becoming a club for driving enthusiasts.
Just let me know what you guys want to do. If we can schedule it, we'll do it!
IslandS62 04-14-2003, 12:06 AM Hey Guys,
That was a great meeting last night. Good to see such a good and varied turn-out. I was a little disappointed though that it turned out to be only inspections, and not so much a tech session. We really should have had someone showing us actual procedures and maintinance. By the look of how busy Alf was (talking), there was sufficient interest. While I really appreciated Voytek letting us use his shop, it would be great to better use the venue. Even if he doesn't want to give away any free services we should have guys doing stuff in the bays. I.e. a brake help bay, a suspension bay, a trouble-shooting bay and maybe a detailing bay etc, etc...even if we need to find our own "techs" and tools. Maybe we can just use the lifts and Alf can provide guidance, and this way members would be able to gather parts and once a quarter would know there will be a DIY day with people there to help you not screw up.
I think it would prove more valuable as a club event in this way, other than a bunch of us talking story for 4-5 hours. It was fun nevertheless though :)
The Beastmaster 04-14-2003, 01:09 AM Your comments are noted. I was hoping that we could do some work, too. Maybe next time.
There's always room for improvement and we'll do so with everyone's comments. I think it's more of a cultural thing that we're going to have to turn around as the club has been this way since I became a member. It's kinda like a 5 year plan where it takes time to build capacity and change people's opinions. That's why we have two Driving Schools this year, maybe three! The unfortunate part is my term ends January 2003 and we must elect a new President who I hope will follow through on these efforts. I was hoping Derek would remain, but he is not re-enlisting so......any takers?
thrlls 04-15-2003, 02:30 AM Brian,
So does that mean that you cannot run another term?
I don't know what it was like b4 you became pres. but I think you did a swell job this past year.
I only hope the next pres. will follow your lead!
I feel the same way John,
I thought I was going to get a brake fluid change, but when you told me you weren' t doing your rad. flush, I knew I wasn't going to get a brake flush...oh well
I think what Reid has in mind is a good thing. But Voytek may have some reserves about people doing work at his shop because of liability, which is understandable. Maybe we could all sign a waiver.
Or, BMWCCH could rent out his shop for one day per quarter for the DIY sessions, and Alf can advise and tell us how much he hates the Mini. :D
Anyone spending Easter Sunday at the tracks??
SOLO II is on!

Woody,
You are correct, I cannot run for another term. Are you interested? John?
As for the DIY session, I have to apologize for that. With the amount of cars coming for the SF Tech, we had no time to do anything else. I guess we'll have to keep the tech session and DIY sessions separate. Any ideas of other venues for the DIY? John, what about Deans?
IslandS62 04-15-2003, 05:12 PM I ran the "DIY day" by Dean and he said he would attend, but his garage is not able to accomodate this type of thing, he can barely squeeze his 944 in the garage let alone accomodate a bunch of us. I understand the liability thing. Maybe someone else has suggestions.
As far as Chapter President thing, I guess we will need to cross that bridge when we need to. Next January? I just started getting back into the club thing, and while I could probably handle the work, I haven't attended enough events (track events, annual dinner etc..) to feel comfortable that I know what needs to happen. I know that the the president is usually "volunteered by others", so who are our other choices??
thrlls 04-17-2003, 12:59 AM President huh?
I don't even have enough time to make the meetings, or the
SPRING FLING....can you hear me now?
I could assist, I thought about the editor thing, but John B is doing such a good job. I'm sure there are others that will jump to the opportunity....like crazy Chris Powell!
Motrv8 > that's from the book Christine, by Steven King. It's about a car that is possesed My wife doesn't like it when I use that word. She feels creepy about it. Strange thing, in that book it talks about a garage where people rent out stalls to fix their cars....DIY
Okay, now it's getting creepy!

The Beastmaster 04-20-2003, 12:49 AM Okay guys, 1 week and counting!
The Beastmaster 04-23-2003, 07:18 AM Applications are officially CLOSED! We are up to our limit of 30 cars and will no longer accept applications. Thank you for your participation in this event!
thrlls 04-23-2003, 11:57 AM Good job Beastmaster!

The Beastmaster 04-23-2003, 12:53 PM Thanks, Woody. We actually surpassed the 30 mark. We are actually at 33.
d'oh! :(
Was supposed to fax in apps yesterday but got into a minor accident and was hurt mildly.
Oh well.
When's the next event?:stickoutt
The Beastmaster 04-23-2003, 06:19 PM Reid,
Fax them in and I'll speak to Owen.
EDIT: Owen said okay! So fax it in.

It still remains to be seen how well I can drive in my current state and if the bmw will be ready in time for the event (snapped a rear diff mounting bolt).:az:
The Beastmaster 04-24-2003, 05:04 PM You can always drive the secretary's car, the typer. Oops, the Type R. ;)
IslandS62 04-24-2003, 06:26 PM Hey Guys, I am back from Kona finally. Damn its boring as hell over there and my rental Chevy Monte Carlo did little to make my stay more pleasant (especially trying to coax it up the mountain to Kamuela). I was going to try and do a brake pad and rotor change on Saturday morning, but I will try and come out to HRP later in the day. I didn't register for Spring Fling as I was not sure if I would be here or not.
Sorry to hear about your accident Reid. Nothing serious I hope.
The Beastmaster 04-26-2003, 01:47 AM 12 hours and counting!
thrlls 04-26-2003, 12:05 PM Hey Reid, I hope you are okay. Watch out for those "minor" injuries they may turn to major injuries as you get older....or is that just age?
I hope you all have a wonderful time as you all "fling your springs" in those high speed turns.

thrlls 04-27-2003, 12:41 AM I just got home from work and couldn't wait to see how things went at the Spring Fling.
So tell me about how terrible it was today at HRP.
About the bad weather and driving conditions, how hardly anyone could enjoy themselves because of the high winds and dust being blown all over the place. How the track was messed up from Friday night's races and how the rain affected the morning runs......Wow! I guess it was a good thing I had to work......NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bluecryin :bluecryin

The Beastmaster 04-27-2003, 01:02 AM It was a horrible day! I think the track gods were against us today.
We started 45 minutes late
Cars came in that needed to be tech'd
The food arrived 1 hour late
Someone laid down some oil on the track the night before
There was no dust as it rained off and on throughtout the day
A car hit the tire barrier in the rubber room
What could go wrong went wrong
I can't take anymore of this so I'm retiring as BMWCCH Prez!
The Beastmaster 04-27-2003, 01:04 AM NOT!
It was a perfect day and everything went as planned. I didn't even get sunburned!
momochrome 04-27-2003, 01:17 AM Thanks for a great event, Bryan. I had a blast, even though my car went through "the sweeper" sideways.
Matt
thrlls 04-27-2003, 01:24 AM oooooooh!
DAMN, I knew it!
Sideways through the sweeper?
Was this a drift session......LOL
I bet that was fun!

IslandS62 04-27-2003, 03:08 AM Thanks Brian for organizing such a great event. No fatal incidents (to cars or drivers) and everybody seemed to be having a lot of fun. It was a beautiful day for some hot laps.
Here are some pics. Enjoy.
I will definitely be out on the TRACK (instead of in the PITS) come July.
This E30 looks parked but is actually flying down the front straight at about 85 mph.
http://members.roadfly.com/johncpang/E30straight.jpg
...but when he broke a clip in his shifter it was great to see everyone come to his aid. Instructors and students.
http://members.roadfly.com/johncpang/Mech.jpg
A beautiful Lotus 7 graced us with its' presence. Here he is entering turn 1, after braking heavy from about 125 to 35 mph.
http://members.roadfly.com/johncpang/turn1.jpg
more Lotus on the back turns:cool:
http://members.roadfly.com/johncpang/Lotus.jpg
IslandS62 04-27-2003, 03:19 AM You need to be pretty limber if you own this car though. I hope he knows a good Chiropractor
http://members.roadfly.com/johncpang/chiro.jpg
Here is a Daytona Violet E36 M3 taking his turn around the track. The holes of his cross-drilled rotors were literally filled with brake dust after this run. You could see the front brakes smoking as he entered turn 1. We had a fire extinguisher standing by.
http://members.roadfly.com/johncpang/Daytona.jpg
Awesome 911 turbo with a full cage and racing seat among its' attributes:eek:
http://members.roadfly.com/johncpang/911.jpg
momochrome's E36 M3 taking a breather after a few "exciting moments" in the hands of an instructor. I think Matt's Bento ended up in that garbage can in the background ;)
http://members.roadfly.com/johncpang/momo.jpg
I always thought my E30 M3 was the nicest in town, but it had to be de-throned someday. This beauty was fresh off the boat from California and now roams the streets of Honolulu:love1

And the wussy award goes to the black MCoupe that sat sulking in the pit lane all afternoon.:nono It will be making the rounds in July though!
http://members.roadfly.com/johncpang/MCoupe.jpg
See everyone at the Aloha 500!
Best,
John
The Beastmaster 04-27-2003, 06:52 AM Thanks for the pics, John. No pics of li'l Beast?
Geez, what the hell am I still doing up? I think I better get some shut eye. Afterall, I was up at 5 am to start Spring Fling Festivities. I was the first one there, followed by Andy 5 minutes later. At least I was first in something today!
thrlls 04-27-2003, 12:33 PM Thanks for putting salt in my wounds John!
Very nice pics. Looks like everyone had a good time. So I see you are now ready for the 500 after a day of photo taking huh?
Your car is looking good with those rims, but now I guess you realize it would look a whole lot better going down the track instead of parked on the side.
Thanks for the photos, I'll go bang my head against the wall now!
Brian, you were the first one there?
I thought Tom would have been waiting outside the gates.
Looks like another success under your belt Brian.
:checkered
The Beastmaster 04-27-2003, 05:43 PM Yes, I was the first one there!:D Unlike last year when you beat me by a few (thousand) seconds!:biglaughb
John's car would have looked sweet running on the track, but it would have been even sweeter to have it trailing a black ///M Roadster!:jump: :checkered
DesmoBob 04-28-2003, 12:23 PM Nice pics. 33 cars jeez wasn't the track crowded? I sometimes go to the motorcycle track days and with 20 bikes and the long course (to end of drag strip), it's still crowded.
Are spectators allowed entry just to watch? I'd really love to get pics like that for my website.
The Beastmaster 04-28-2003, 02:04 PM Spectators are allowed. Al cars are not on the track at the same time. We have 4 run groups based on your skill level.
IslandS62 04-28-2003, 08:03 PM John's car would have looked sweet running on the track, but it would have been even sweeter to have it trailing a black ///M Roadster!
:nono Stop instigating.
Of course if we learned anything from Saturday its that it is the driver and not the car. It was quite a sight watching that E30 318i Convert lap that LT1 Corvette on the short course.:buttrock
The Beastmaster 04-28-2003, 08:59 PM The Vette driver didn't want to go out for his last run group because he said he didn't want to hurt his car anymore than he did earlier in the day. He boiled his brake fluid and had brake fade.
Or maybe it was because his 300hp V8 was emasculated by a little old 1.8L four banger!
Hawaii 04-28-2003, 09:04 PM damn sounded fun. wish i was old enough to attend
maybe next year

John, so that was you that I saw on the freeway heading east (as I was heading west) on the freeway between Kapolei and Waipahu. Nice black wheels.:)
Brian, thanks for the help with getting our applications in, but the cars could not be teched at BME in time.:az:
We will definitely be gracing the Aloha 500 (registering early of course).

The Beastmaster 04-29-2003, 09:26 PM Well, I ran a few laps on Friday. Did 100 - 110 on the straight. Could have pushed it and gotten more, but I was a little unsure of the car. Actually, I was unsure of myself as I haven't been on that track in a couple of years and I was off the proper line.
I ran a couple of touring laps for the video camera during lunch. It was on KGMB!:D
