View Full Version : Dice iPod comes and goes
jcommare 01-03-2008, 08:59 PM Hi...
Love my Dice ipod integration kit that I got as an Xmas gift...BUT, it regularly stops working. That is to say that i can still see the song displayed on my radio but I don't get any audio.
Plug and unplug ipod doesn't help. The only thing that seems to fix it is to unplug and replug power at the main Dice unit in the trunk.
Note that it never just stops while driving but will just fail to start up when starting the car.

Suggestions??
Thanks!
Halston Pitman 01-04-2008, 11:52 AM So when you reset the iPod by unplugging its power and back in it always comes back and starts working?
Is there a set pattern for its failure? IE it always stops working after you get home from work and the next morning it is dead? Or something like every 2-3 days it does this?
tim325 01-04-2008, 02:19 PM Happens to me too on occasion. I have a 02 325xi with the built in nav and if i press the volume knob in which normally mutes the audio then press it again it will connect. Not sure why it does that.

Did you get the DSP adapter with your DICE kit? This would be the reason no audio is present.

What generation iPod and firmware version are you using? Also - is the iPod in hibernation mode when you are turning on the DICE?
jcommare 01-04-2008, 07:29 PM Th typical pattern is that it will work fine...then, next day...no audio. That is to say that the ipod IS playing and the song title is displaying...just no sound.
I have tried various plugging and unplugging of the ipod with no joy. If I unplug and then replug the power connector on the DICE main unit in the trunk, it re-inits and sound is restored.
I have the DSP module installed.
Ipod is a 1st gen Nano...firmware is whatever is current for that device as i am a consummate mac guy...
thanks for the feedback, guys...

Double check your connections to verify everything is secure, otherwise there may be a hardware problem that needs to be corrected.
If the kit was purchased from us, contact me directly and we'll make arrangements for the kit to be tested and/or replaced if needed.
jcommare 01-04-2008, 10:45 PM Connections are good...and the same thing happens with the iPhone...unfortunately, my wife purchased it elsewhere...but thanks, Tom...
It's only been installed for two weeks and, over that time it has been DAMN COLD here in new England...it will be interesting to see what happens with the predicted warm uo for next week...

tthach79 01-05-2008, 01:02 PM I have the same issue. I wish I live somewhere close to a dealer that could install it for $150. My BMW dealer is saying they will charge $400 to install it.
But I have installed it myself; but not so if I did it right. i get the text but no sound. I have the coxial connecting to the DSP kit and the DSp to the DICE unit just the like doc says.
FF anyone living in Austin and have a a repectable installer please commend them to me.
Thanks!

If you have a digital camera handy, send me over some pictures of your connections and we can determine if the install was performed correctly.

Would you happen to have a digital multimeter or a friend that has one. Unfortunately pictures will not help see if your DSP adapter is in fact getting power.
You say you have the "same problem". Have you ever had sound before or is this a fresh install?

Unfortunately it sounds as if the module could be the culprit. From time to time they do go bad as with many consumer electronics. Unfortunately for us no electronic is perfect.
I will shoot you a quick PM and we can get this sorted out.
casey83pack 01-07-2008, 11:31 PM I just got the dice IPOD integration as well and experienced a similar problem. It worked fine until about a week ago and then the head unit didn't see it at all. If I press the CD button it would say no CD (or go to the real CD if one was inserted). I tried three different IPODs and nothing fixed it. I then unplugged the power cable from the dice unit and plugged it back in and it now works fine. Not sure if that solved the problem. I post again if the problem arises again.
