I try not to run any of mine dry when I did test them Hook up some lines on the input and output side of the pump. Place the input in a bowl of gas, remember that pumps are cooled and lubricated by gasoline. Then safely hook up a 12v source and run the pump for a couple of seconds. If it doesn't work try and run the pump in reverse to try and dislodge any debris. Also if that doesn't work a good smack with a piece of wood might help. These pumps work off of gravity feed so I tested mine using a hose elevated with a funnel. I also secured the pump to the table since it will torque on you when you feed it power. This is how I did mine, not sure if there is a safer way, or if you can even run it dry. I am not responsible for injury, death, or loss of property damage because of my suggestion. I dont need to tell you to take extreme caution when working with fuel and electricity do I? Try and keep the sparks if any away from the gasoline. jchristians 01-03-2008, 01:12 PM thanks for the reply. how do you run the pump in reverse? i will give it a try...scary. blitzed310 01-03-2008, 01:22 PM Switch the + and ground source on the pump terminals and it will spin in reverse. Jester323 01-03-2008, 03:13 PM what about using a less flamable source, like a white gas such as kerosene to test? I would use jumper cables, as long as you have, and make the connections to the pump first, set it up on the bench and then get the battery/power source as far away as possible. Using some sort of toggle switch would be the safest way. Be careful & good luck! TheNeek 01-03-2008, 03:16 PM What is the purpose of the test? Just function or are you trying to measure pump performance? It is difficult to setup a test or experiment without knowing what the requirements for completion are. |
