My car need a few things and I got a quote from a mechanic. Is this a good price ?

Here's the things I needed done:
Both ball joint(front)
2 rear bushing
both control arm(front)
Both tie-rod assembly(front)
Aligment

$650 parts and labor. Good price ?

Thanks

$650 total for parts and labor seems to be a good price for that amount of work. I just did a quick lookup on realoem and it looks like the control arms run about $160 each and tie-rods/ball joints are in the neighborhood of $100/ea.

Either your shop gets great prices on parts or they have an unbelievably low per-hour rate....or they're just going to superglue the new parts over the old and that's why the cost is so reasonable j/k.

IMO you're getting a good deal. Where are you having the work performed?

Um, on the 325i there are only two ball joints on the control arms. New control arms come with new ball joints.

That's a great deal even if it includes a generic front end kit ($190 or so, includes two CAs, two tie rods, two CA bushings), if it includes replacement of the rear trailing arm bushings. If it's actually the front control arm bushings and not the rear TABs, then it's a decent deal.

Fred, I thought the same thing in regards to the ball joints (only two, integrated onto the control arms) but the realoem diagram includes two ball joints as part of the tie-rod/steering rack assembly. What do you make of this figures; maybe his mechanic just parsed out the parts list to the individual components when explaining the work to be done :dunno

Obviously #3 in this figure:

Tie rod assembly #5 & 6; ball joints listed as #7 & 8:

Edit: IMG tag owned :( edited to provide links to the diagrams instead of pics. Fred, thanks for the clarifications!

BMW and aftermarket parts suppliers offer replacement ball joints, so if you want to keep your arms and have a press, you can press in new ball joints. That's why #19 is available separately from #3 in the first diagram.

On the second diagram, you can get outer tie rods if you don't want to replace the whole thing. 7 and 8 are just the outer components of 5 and 6.

Replacing just the the ball joint is such a pia. I think its worth it just to replace the control arm.
