Hey guys, as you may know im driving a RHD 318i E21.

81-83 Big Front Brake Conversion:
Bolt on kit with Vented Rotors, 4 Piston Calipers, Metal Master Brake Pads Steel Braided brake line set and hardware. $550

This is a direct quote from Racetep about their big brakes kit. What I would like to understand is whether I could run the stock brake booster with this kit. I'm not sure about being able to run 4 piston calipers with the stock booster but due to the setup of the Booster in the RHD models, there is no space at all for a larger booster, such as the one in the old 5 series cars.

Thanks guys

Hal

the stock booster will be more than adequate.

isnt the kit just using girling calipers?

I assumed so. But I remebered something about 5 series booster for some reason. Then I remembered it was for the rear disk conversion or something...

master cylinder, not booster. Its because the larger area of the pistons can mean the pedal feels softer than you are used to. So adding a larger master cylinder pushes more fluid, firms up the pedal and reduces the travel again.

Those calipers arent expensive here mate, talking about $50 a pair used, plus another $50 for seal kits for them. Might be worth just getting the bits here?

The E12 MC has larger diameter holes for the hard lines and also has 4 ports for the front calipers so you do not have to use a splitter/T for the fronts brakes. I am using a stock E21 MC with my Girling swap and it feels just fine to me. The pedal can be a bit firmer but I have no complaints.

I thought the ports are/would be the same so the lines just screw in?

What car came with these girling calipers ? Part number ? Is it a straight bolt on ? Has anyone converted an e21 to 5 lug ?

They are from a certain volvo 240, go to the faq thread at the top of this page, I think JR wrote about them there. I got the 5 lug conversion going on right now.

What parts are required for the 5 lug conversion ?
