Selling my 98' 740i. I am forced to sell as much as I don't want to. Great looking car. Silver with grey interior leather. Car is in excellent condition and deffinitely is the ultimate driving machine. It currently has 121,000 miles. Have the great looking M-Parallel rims making it look more like the sport. I wanted to add some sport features but never got around to it. Well taken care off while I owned it, Always used Full synthetic oil up until my last oil change about 300miles ago. I will have new pictures up very soon after I get it all cleaned up and ready for pictures. You will not be disappointed with this car it is by far the best purchase I have ever made.

Alright aafter typing a pretty big answer and accidently deleting it all here is another go at it. As far as owners I am not positive as to how many there were before me. As far as accidents the carfax was clean before me and the only thing I have ever changed on the body was the front right fender. It had a nice big dent in it so I bought a new fender and brought it back to Perillo BMW in downtown to chicago and they put it on and sprayed it so thats about all I know about body work.

As far as service records I am a DIY guy but I also have a BMW mechanic as a neighbor with a lift in his garage so he took care of all the major projects. So here is what I replaced....

New tires last summer
New upper radiator house about 2 months ago
New control arms
Plan on throwing on some new Sway Bar links very soon before sell.

Here are the problems.....
The check Engine light is on but after running a computer check they aren't to big of a deal which is a relief for me or the next owner. The car needs new cat's which I found some aftermarket cats for about $150 a side which the neighbor mechanic recommended because the current ones are aftermarket as well. This should erase the all of the codes but if not I want to say that it would be the MAF sensor due to rough running in the morning. I have read that this is mostly caused by the MAF so that should be it. Once the car is warmed up it drives like a new car. I personally believe that with about $500-$600 this car could be running 100% perfect again if you searched for spme parts. I love this car and everything about it. It is ready to go so if anyone is interested offer away. Any other questions feel free to ask and I am open to any reasonable offers so have at it.

Screw eBay, you mind tellin whats been maintained while you owned it and prior to that (if you know of course). I have a friend of mine who wants one of these like right now lol I told him they aren't cheap to maintain, but if you could list the stuff that has been and needs to be done, we can take it from there. Ah, can't believe this hasn't sold yet, the lucky buyer surely won't be disappointed I've personally driven this car on numerous occassions and it runs perfectly, it's in gorgeous condition and is the king of luxury and power. Most likely going to have a photoshoot on the car this week possibly tomorrow. Basically the first reasonable offer I get I will take as I am trying to get rid of the car. Make an offer and we shall see what can be worked out. Just put on some new brake pads the other day so that eliminates another problem.

Desperate for a sale. Tell me what I have to do.

i have almost the exact same car with only 101k miles that i plan to sell soon and i feel your pain....not much market for these.

Anyway here are some recommendation from my OCD self:
1) clean your engine and take better pics. Tape off electronics, cover alternator, soak in degreaser, and powerwash. Will look like new.
2) Better interior pics.
3) Take pics of any service records you have. After dumping 8k into my 740 the first year of ownership, i would require those if i bought another.
4) Fix the cats and check engine light...no one wants to buy a "new to them" car with problems.
5) Have a BMW service place inspect the car and let prospective buyers talk to them.
6) clean wheelwells (not necessary but they look bad in pics)
7) Align your truck, the seems dont match up in the pics
8) remove bumper sticker and all adhesive left over
9) touch up paint on rear bumper
10) touch up scuff on rocker panel. If necessary you can respray both sides with duplicolor bumper coating and they will
look brand new and perfect.

Anyway good luck with the sale. With the list above done i would say $6500 should be rock bottom

Yea I have to work on the pics as I am trying to get rid of it this week. I actually work at BMW so we ran it through the computer yesterday and there are alot less problems then I thought. One code is setting off a few others but I am going to have a guy at work take care of it which is the intake manifold seal. and that will get rid of the rest of my codes. Therefore the problems listed above aren't really true but the check engine light will be off when the buyer comes as a BMW tech will be taking care of the problems for me. As far as service records go since I have had the car I have taken care of every problem myself so I don't really have much to prove it and past owner didn't give me any so I am not sure what he did. I am going to do a full body detail hopefully this weekend if it warms up here. Therefore I will have all new pictures from every angle possible so hopefully someone will buy it as I am pretty much willing to do anything to meet the buyers needs.

agreed 8.5k is a very good price to begin with just be patient and definitely look into other avenues for the sale like autotrader or cars.com

Alright I did almost everything on the list and took some pictures today after I waxed it. Front bumper turned out great as well as the interior shots. I think the pictures turned out pretty good so hopefully you guys like them. The back bumper I think just needs to be buffed out so I didn't use any touch up paint on it just yet. Let me know what you guys think, it is ready to go.

Car absolutely needs to go. Had it worked on at work the other day and it is running great. Check Engine light is off and car is running better then ever. The buyer will not be disappointed with the car as I can assure that. Make me an offer people I want to try and get it out of here this week so I can move on to my new 7.

Just threw on a new MAF car is running even better and I might throw in all new spark plugs this week. Make a reasonable offer and you can take it this week.

Last 2 740i ...1998 and 1999 I sold to African American guys from FOR SALE sign in my back window. One guy was a taxi driver who bought it while I was in Miami on business trip.

Also if you have another car .... find a busy street and pay a business $50 to let you park it with a FOR SALE sign.

Last big tip.... I found a...... local community bank..... that would loan on cars more than 7 years old. Big Bank will not loan after 7 years, if you can find a bank and can advertise financing available that is a big help to those without $8k cash.
