View Full Version : Local e30 Guys...(Chris, Shannon, etc...)
Mojo325is 01-02-2008, 10:34 AM So the car was having a tough time starting last night, so I took the battery out, and hooked it up to the charger last night.
I put the battery in this morning, and I got some pretty good sparks off the positive end when I hooked it up and now I can't even get it to crank...
Re-hooked the battery up to the charger and tried again to start it and I've got nothing...
Any ideas?
AlarmedBread 01-02-2008, 10:42 AM By nothing you mean no electrical at all?
Check inline fuse in the battery cable maybe.
Mojo325is 01-02-2008, 10:43 AM Nothing at all...sounds retarted, where is the inline fuse?
The battery cable looks fine.
Hey, Chris, give me a call...960 0112.
powellsd 01-02-2008, 11:00 AM SO nothing is turning on like lights? The fuse will be upfront. Check around the fuse panel and on the passenger side by the firewall. Are you getting any readings on the battery right now?
Mojo325is 01-02-2008, 11:09 AM I've got nothing, and I don't have a battery tester...I know I need to get one, but the charger says it's charged, and I'm not getting anything from the lights or radio or anything.
powellsd 01-02-2008, 11:18 AM stick your tongue on the posts and see what happens....
SO when you said things were sparking there was nothing around the pos terminal right? Also double check your ground connections from battery to sidewall in trunk and ground underneath the car by oil pan.
Mojo325is 01-02-2008, 11:21 AM yeah, connections look good...chris is on his way over in a bit to help me out...
:eek
Mojo325is 01-02-2008, 11:24 AM and apparently i made a HUGE fubar by hooking up the negative end first.
powellsd 01-02-2008, 11:31 AM you might have screwed the computer up, but hard to say.
Cool that Chris is on his way
Mojo325is 01-02-2008, 11:32 AM is that fixable?
powellsd 01-02-2008, 11:41 AM only by replacing.
Mojo325is 01-02-2008, 01:18 PM well, we fried the computer, the wiring harness and all sorts of fun stuff. in the frigid, sub zero temp, we got it fixed.
omgwtfwe'refreakingawesome111!!!!11
powellsd 01-02-2008, 01:28 PM So Chris had spare parts from one of his many e30's...Thats awesome that you got it work again.

werd kemosabe.
now my ghetto radio doesn't work and the ABS light is on, but I'm thinking I may have fried the crappy radio once and for all.
powellsd 01-02-2008, 03:36 PM i have another cheap radio here and also another surpise for u monkeye boy.. will send off by friday if u like
Mojo325is 01-02-2008, 03:37 PM oh a suprise?

powellsd 01-02-2008, 03:39 PM Nope. u will have to wait...
Mojo325is 01-02-2008, 03:41 PM bah.
ok, send away.
let me know what shipping is and i'll send you a check.
powellsd 01-02-2008, 03:51 PM dont worry about shipping. it will only be a couple bucks.
Mojo325is 01-02-2008, 04:02 PM even better.
as a thank you, i baked you a pie, its in the other thread.
AlarmedBread 01-02-2008, 04:25 PM Try swapping out fuses 6 and 12 maybe. You had some that were wavy that might be on the way out. It is possible the ABS computer is messed up from the shocks to the system. It's a lot more sensitive than the DME. We can try swapping some stuff around quick friday.
IppoJ 01-03-2008, 10:33 AM So, do not ever hook up the negative cable first?
I did not know that. :|
Mojo325is 01-03-2008, 10:42 AM yes, do not ever hook up negative first...
topdown323 01-03-2008, 01:54 PM good that you got it operational Mojo, maybe i can make it up there for a bit on friday to get the car chris, i'm still workin on getting the ice off of my trailer.
AlarmedBread 01-03-2008, 02:02 PM Supposed to warm up over the weekend and maybe thaw out on it's own. :)
If you want to come up friday, has to be before about 11am. I will be at the hospital from 2pm - whoknows.
topdown323 01-03-2008, 03:41 PM oh dat's right, someone is slapping baby jesus. I'll see what i can get figured and let you know.
Mr Project 01-03-2008, 11:20 PM Hooking up the negative first isn't usually the end of the world...sounds like you hooked it up backwards, right? (assumed that right away from the symptoms) Positive first and then negative is usually safer, but only reversing the cables will REALLY give you that crispy, flaky, tasty-fried E30 goodness.
(glad it's working again)
Dark Helmet 01-03-2008, 11:38 PM He Lives!!!!!!
Mr Project 01-03-2008, 11:41 PM Not just I, but internet access at home again! And even in the cold! I think TW might have finally gotten it fixed. (been basically out for 3 weeks)
Dark Helmet 01-03-2008, 11:44 PM you shoulda called bruce and complained...
powellsd 01-04-2008, 03:12 AM nice to see you around again armen. Hows your dads car going..
Mr Project 01-04-2008, 09:11 AM Back on the road, thanks. He's getting an alignment today, everything went together pretty well. Even converted it to an electric fan.
powellsd 01-04-2008, 10:23 AM Sweet.
Also Mojo your package is on your way. Should have by Tues or so via USPS.

Remember the shape that my alternator was in last summer? You remember, the ground wire that wasn't there? (Sounds like an Agatha Christie novel). I think that had a lot to do with it, I figure it drained the battery for a good 8-10 months before I figured out that we had a problem.
Dark Helmet 01-04-2008, 01:46 PM eh... maybe...

it was missing a ground wire?? Wow i didnt know it was missing it at all. I never had a drain issue in the car unlike the e36 does to me every now and then..but i think i fixed that issue.
