View Full Version : Fuel Injector Lines
extra chrispy 01-01-2008, 05:58 PM I think my car had the original plastic lines and I broke one while getting the injector out. I was just wondering what some of you guys used as an upgrade or did you use stock? Not too many junkyards around here so I'll be looking at new lines. I looked through the threads but got overwhelmed. Specifics would be appreciated.
TIA
Chris
Layne 01-01-2008, 06:14 PM The best bet is to get the stainless steel braided ones from a junk audi (maybe a few others as well). Or you can get new oem from Bavauto.com for about $50 each. If you can find it, there's a high pressure plastic tubing you can use (put your old ends on it) just like the black fuel hoses on the warm up regulator. I can't remember if its 3 or 4 mm ID.
kdanielson 01-01-2008, 06:28 PM Audi, VW, Mercedes, Volvo all used CIS with braided lines... should be able to find something.

neutrino 01-02-2008, 05:41 PM www.dssales.net is the only place I could find in the US that distributes new plastic line of the proper type (Cohline brand, 3mm/5mm ID/OD) to support injector line. This is not the 2mm/5mm line used by BMW originally though...this is discontinued.
I would be leary of combining line types. I think all of the braided stainless lines you find will be 3mm ID and your stock yellowish plastic line is 2mm ID. I'm only guessing but I bet that mix & match would cause inconsistent fuel delivery between cylinders due to different damping of the pressure pulse.

Bad guess. Doesn't matter.

Good to know. Thanks. I was only thinking this because I read somewhere that 3mm line shouldn't be used for injectors (BMW documents I think) but then again everyone else used this in SS with no problems so I wasn't sure what to believe. I haven't had any problem with the 3mm/5mm line so far as leaking, etc.

Very good and very expensive as near as I can tell. I'd much rather spend $20 on German made original plastic lines and press the fittings myself compared to $300+ they want for a set of custom made SS lines.
wayfast 01-02-2008, 08:42 PM the line's about $25-30 new. you can get them here. not sure which one you need

extra chrispy 01-02-2008, 09:01 PM After reviewing earlier posts and talking with a friend with an old Volvo I ordered a set of lines from discountvdubparts.com using a 1981 model (the part numbers were the same for all '81 VWs with fuel injection). The price varies $5-$10 for each cylinder and I assume its due to different lengths and they were more expensive than BMW lines although they come with the fittings already attached. The car already has 2 braided lines that are way longer than stock and it was suggested that they may be VW lines. Apparently the car ran fine this way. Thanks for the push in the right direction.

Not so much discount at $40-$50 a line. I have been searching for these lines for a long time. Every yard trip I make I have no luck.
If anyone finds a set I will buy them from you.
jrcook320 01-02-2008, 11:36 PM CJ, I have found several sets in yards around here, some in better shape than others. Most in the yards around here have rusty end fittings.
I picked up a shit mix box of braided fuel lines from a guy on turbobricks.com for $50 when I was doing my turbo project. I'll lay em out and take a pic next to a tape measure for you so you can tell me if you'd be interested in any of them. Or give me the measurement of the longest line you need and I'll see if I have any long enough.
Another option I have considered is to buy standard 4 AN braided stainless fuel line from Summit Racing and have Napa crimp new bango fittings from special T onto them, but I don't want to spend the money when I have a decent looking functional set and need to spend extra cash on suspension anyway.

blitzed310 01-03-2008, 11:52 AM Oh cool Josh. When I get home I'll measure the lines and see what I got.
My lines work, they just look bad, they turned that orange/brown color over time.
jrcook320 01-03-2008, 12:58 PM bump for updated posts
neutrino 01-03-2008, 01:29 PM I just took a set of SS lines off of an 86 Jetta. They were pretty long...just FYI if anyone is going to the yard to look.
jrcook320 01-03-2008, 01:37 PM I'm running a set off an earlier mk1 rabbit. For the long straight ones you want to stick to the 8v motors, not the 16v.
Layne 01-03-2008, 03:11 PM Is there any oem use of a line that has the injector type fittings on both ends (no banjos)? That's the way the tii engine is, and I'd like some new lines for it. I'm thinking of making some hard SS lines bent to replicae the plastic ones, but I can't get the fittings in SS.

I put new lines on and they went from snow white to brown in 6 months.
jrcook320 01-03-2008, 05:40 PM To my knowledge not on a k-jet car.
You could buy brand new injector fittings from special T and have napa crimp them on to the fuel line of your choice.

Thanks for the offer. I should have waited before ordering new ones. I might still be interested if these don't work for me.
