My dad recently picked up a 535i with navigation and Logic7 Premium sound, sport package, comfort access, premium package, and a couple other options. I was riding with him the other day and I noticed that it appears to have a center-channel speaker above the iDrive on the dash.

Can he use the DVD player for the Nav. system to play DVD audio disks? I can't see any other reason why there would be a center channel speaker... what's the point if you don't have 5.1 audio? Also, if we remove the nav. DVD, will that cause any negative effects, or will it start up like normal when we put it back in?

The center DVD slot is only for NAV disc, no negative effects if remove; just that the navigation function won't work at all.

Will the other disk slot read DVD audio or SACD?
