I realize that they would be expensive... but does anyone know if M seats can be ordered and installed in my 2003 Z4....
I seem to slide around in the standard seat.

Yep, they'll fit. They run about $2000/seat though.

Look, I know that this is going to sound really stupid, but I've seen several messages on this board about folks who had the M seats (only a $500 option when you get your Z4!) and decided that they're just too uncomfortable, and they wanted a straight swap out for the standard style seats. For what it's worth, I'd consider offering a straight swap with maybe a couple of hundred bucks thrown in... there's nothing to lose, and I was surprised to see how common the M seats complaint was... (I love mine).

It's sure worth a shot..

Ya, I dont get why it goes 10x as much to buy the seats when its only a 500$ option, wish my car had them.

My salesman said the sole reason he didn't own an M Coupe was the seats. :)

I don't think most of the complainers still want to switch, anyway. The seats are something of a shock the first time you sit in an M Coupe and feel them hugging you like a child being left at his first day of school, but after a bit you don't notice anymore, I suspect. I was fond of mine from the start.

I checked on www.realoem.com, and the M-Sport seats are $5049 each.

I have the M Sports in my Z4 Coupe, and they do take some getting used too. Also, If you're over 200 pounds, you just won't fit! They are that tight! I wish they had an adjustment for width at the bolsters.

it makes perfect sense
it's a $500 option yes, but for that $500 you don't get both the standard & M seats
if you buy then later you obviously will have purchased 2 sets of seats ergo it should cost significantly more

look @ the cost of the standard seats, they aren't much less than M seats- the cost is b/c bmw seats, any seats, are expensive

mine have spoiled me
when i test drove a 335i- i had to ask if the car had the sport seats, w/a smile the salesguy said yes...i hid my grimace...compared to the m sport seats they felf flat & unsupportive

m seats should be available in every bmw- i'd havfe trouble buying a car that didn't have similarly bolstered seats (though some more padding might be nice for those long trips)- they are the single best aspect of the interior imo

So basically, if a standard seat owner is looking for a sportier seat options, we should just consider recaros? For the price difference, it sounds like it.

I'm 6'2, 240 lbs, and I fit FINE. My ass is just a tad big on the bottom section, but it's not the least uncomfortable for me, even on interstate drives. In fact I'm more comfortable than I was in sport seats in my E90 330i. Despite the lack of lumbar support, my back does not fatigue at all.. in the 330i, 3-4 hours of nonstop driving left me feeling like I needed a chiropractor.. not so in my M Coupe.

The bottom line is that we're all built differently, and to make a blanket statement that being 200 lbs is too big for the sport seats just isn't (necessarily) true. You have to try 'em for yourself to know for sure how they'll feel.

That or track down a Z4M (or other version with M-sports) being parted out. Cliff over on Bimmerfest rolled his coupe last month, for instance: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=248766

Oh okay, I get now why its a 500$ "upgrade" not a 500$ "accessory" thanks for clearing that up

While browsing ebay today, I came across these seemingly "almost new" M seats today (Wednesday 1-23-08) that are going for just over $500 for the pair, and they're the heated model as well (maybe they're all heated, I don't know). The ebay item number is 130190165421. Hope this helps!

I've been watching these too, and I'll bet a dozen others here are as well. The price will jump precipitously in the minutes before the auction ends.

I guess I am the only one who finds the M sport seats to be inadequate in regards to lateral holding. I have a set of red recaro srd's that I am itching to pull out of my Corrado because of how much better the recaro seat is in terms of comfort and bolstering. I just dont want to go to red cloth from black leather, nor do I want a seatless Corrado.

But you can't beat the seat heat...

The shoulder bolsters seem very weak and seems more aesthetic than functional. Too many warranty claims/complaints on bolster wearing has caused BMW to slowly shy away from aggressive designs.

These cars can develop enormous g forces, but I slide around in my seat during spirited driving, NEED MORE BOLSTERING, ok for compromise, adjustable bolsters.....the leg extension is nice though.

It is hard, very hard to design seats, especially for our US market, we have the widest range of body types in the world.

Recaro SRD's (The original SRD's had one size; they now sell varying frame sizes as well) were designed for someone 5'7" 150 lbs, basically idea race driver dimensions. Our M seats are not; they have to fit at least 80% of the varying body types of the prospective buyers. And for the Z4 the average buyer age is about ~40yrs old.

I find the back support is spot on, although lumber adjustment would be a plus, especially since they cost ~$5K. And whats with no mechanical stops on recline and aft positioning. You'd figure since mechanical limit switch costs about 1 dollar. Guess they couldn't charge 5001.00 for the seats...

The E36 M3 seats were by far better. Still haven't found a set in proper condition.

Guess you can't have the whole pie.

Sure am glad I've never tried the M seats. I might have become dissatisfied with my standard leather ones. Maybe I'm just easy to please, no matter what my wife says.

I was so seriously considering this auction that I went to my dealer 2 days ago to sit in them one more time in person. I will be abstaining from a last minute bid with you guys on these. While the leg bolstering was ample, and the sitting position is nice, I found 0 extra shoulder support vs my standard seats. The M seat shoulder bolsters were too widely spaced and at too wide of an angle for my torso, and that is where we need the most help while having a little fun in this car.

Still, they look fantastic. I expect pics and a writeup from whoever snags them. :)

If you intend on using your car on track a fair bit, or have a smaller frame, and hopefully have a healthy back, going to a light duty fixed back seat is the ideal choice. I have elected to install Recaro Pole Position's in my M (sorry, I'm keeping the M seats for occasional long distance trips). Usually my car is for short drives and track use, so I don't mind a little extra bolstering and struggle with ingress/egress for the benefit of staying in the seat under hard driving conditions (also helps you keep the car in control by keeping your body under control and transmits a 'little extra' sensory input through your back end).

So they ended at just under $1500 shipped. Still a steal, who snagged em?
