The E39 540 has a long accelerator pedal. I have the OEM accelerator pedal cover from BMW and it is too short. I have come to the conclusion that you cannot change the gas pedal to a shorter pedal. It would not fit where it joins at the top of the accelerator pedal shaft. The shaft would have to be longer to accommodate the new shorter pedal. No 2 in this drawing: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...68&hg=35&fg=10. Therefore one can either install the shorter OEM pedal cover or get the correct size cover elsewhere.

I like the look of ACS and OEM pedals due to the black strips of rubber in them. A more subtle look. Others look too machined for my taste.
o OEM accelerator pedal cover is too short and will look like crap.
o I wanted UUC pedals to match my clutch setup and SSK, but they don't make them for E39's.
o I have a call into Dinan about their pedal covers, but I think the gas pedal cover is also too short and no dead foot cover.
o This guy on eBay said he carries the correct long version and will engrave anything I want on them or leave them blank (I prefer blank). $80 shipped, but of unknown quality. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=150173946679.
o ACS are over $500 for the set including the dead foot pedal.
o Ultimate pedals are a bit too machined, but good quality and price. They might look good with the smooth texture and black inserts.
o Hamann at $410 look good, but all aluminum.
o Hartge look nice, but no dead foot and not sure about a long version gas pedal.

$400 for set of pedals is just plain crazy...crazy I tell ya !
I'd like to get a set too...but I can think of better mods to spend $400 on.

These are pretty damn nice for $89. At that price you really can't go wrong.

Nice, but what about the dead foot pedal cover? I ordered a set from Ultimate Pedals that I liked. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220121609545

This is a sample installed on a Z8. Mine will look like this other than the hole placements, no logo and without heel/toe add on. I asked to have the holes drilled at the corners. Basically the vertical lines is what I liked and they didn't look too busy. Paid $81 shipped.

Keep an eye on ebay for the ACS stuff, i see ACS pedal covers go for under $200 all day long including the dead pedal. Speaking of that, i have a ACS dead pedal laying around that i will sell cheap but i do not have the rubber inserts for it.

Be wary of other after market products as well - as you have discovered, the gas pedal cover's are typically too short. Same with pedals for the 3 series cars as well.
