alright lately i've been job hunting and this is what i've come down too, both came my way by chance and wont last for long.
1 working at wagner mercedes benz in boylston, most likely starting near the bottom of the chain and working my way up.. starting pay 14-15 a hr. Normal incentives, bace pay starting and if i work out or after a year or so goes to a flat rate pay and a slight pay increase.

OR 2

working for a welding company out of RI, getting to travel all over welding boilers for large factories.
pros: 25$ a hr starting, 2 mo of the summer off payed, get to travel everywhere, $$$$$$, first paycheck would be around $2700 grose, take home 16-1700 a week after 401k and all the packages.
cons: durring the winter working 80 hrs a week 6am-6pm, gone from home for months on end.

My friend who offered me the welding job bought his FIRST house when he was 20, hes been there for 4years and makes over 100K a year.

I'm so stuck b/c i'm going to be 22, i need to grow up and get a real job.

any suggestions from neot would be nice.
oh btw sorry for actually making you read through that.

Do you get any welding certs by working there? If so, it'd be a more attractive opportunity, because if it doesn't work out or you don't want to weld boilers the rest of your life, you can move to a similar, but less strenuous line of welding.

I agree with M3Augy but have some questions. What does the future hold at the Mercedes job? advancement?, training? You said you'd start at the bottom of the chain and work up, how high could you work up? Not knowing how high you can reach at the Mercedes job, 100k a year at 22yrs old, that should answer your question:D.

Go with the welding and grab the cash. Working on boilers for power plants, paper mills, etc. is a lot of DIRTY work and long hours. I used to work 7 days a week and 12 hours per day. I never did boiler work. I worked on steam turbines and generators at different power plants. I used to hire outside contractors for that. Like I said it is dirty, cramped and a little dangerous working on boilers especially older ones.

The trade you learn is something no one can ever take away from you. It's a demonstrable skill. Tell someone you worked at a car dealership, they'll assume you were the lot boy during your tenure there, and might be right. Car dealerships are known for screwing customers, but in fact they are MUCH better at screwing their employees.

Very well put, i've lurned the automotive trade already. school + 3 yrs in the field and i'm bored. not something i want to do forever.
i'm going to mix it up with this welding job i think. Hey if all else fails i can fall back on the automotive buisness.
