My car is extremely low from the front as most other eights are too, having trouble with speed bumps and drives, any ideas, whether i should change tyre size or is there a way the suspension can be lifted slightly.

I usually have my cars lowered and had my 328i lowered which still sits higher thn the e31.

I'm guessing you have H&R springs ? same here and here is what I did. I installed a camber plate - good for the handling and also raised the front 1/8" inch and switched to a slightly taller tires. fixed up the trouble but still as low as I like it. I'm running 17" wheels and front/rear CSI spoiler which made it even worse.
an H&R spring with factory oem shocks also can be a trouble. You might need to add the front bilstein's which also raises the front a tiny bit (1/8')

If you do Bilsteins or any other shock/strut, do all 4-front and rear.

why is that? My cars have H&R in the front, CSi springs in the rear Dinan Shocks in the rear and Bilsteins in the front! Hartge rear sway bar and E32 front sway bar and MWrench Camber plates and spring adapters, They drive and handle excellent!

Hi 8eights! It's me! The only reason I was saying replace all 4 was so he didn't end up with new on the front and old worn-out OEM on back. That would be unsafe and probably produce some unsure handling characteristics. Your combination, as you know, is excellent.

yes if you have oem on the rear, change them as well. diff type of shocks are not always work the best.

Santa is still considering bringing me a CSi nose+azz but I'm kinda worried about the sh*tload of speedbumps here in L.A. I need to get new springs at some point. I'll go H&R with Camber plates all around. Do you guys know how much the F/R drop will be with that kind of setup?

I seem to remember someone mentioning having only about 4" or 5" of ground clearance with the CSi nose and H&R springs

I have 3 1/2 inches in the front and no issues in LA for 11 years!

brings it down to 3-3-1/2inches with a 255/40x17 tires. not much fun getting in/out of gas station here on the east coast.
with a camber plates and 255/45x17 tires it is a little easier on the front spoiler. forget about parking with a nose first as the parking lot bumpers needs 4" ground clearance !
I still don't have 4" !!!

I don't think thats possible with the nose first ! I choose my new house lot based on the elevation changes. a lot my wife wanted had a steep incline which I could never clear so we had to compromise.

You need to host pics somewhere like putfile.com or imageshack.com first and paste the URL to the hosted image here using the insert image icon above (the one with the mountain)

Damn, every time I start to pull out my wallet to purchase a CSI kit, I get stricken with the thought that I'd rip off that nose quickly.

Let's see, I'm running 245/40/18 and 275/35/18. If I install the H&R with Camber plates I'd get approx. 3 1/2" clearance?

I don't think that I can do that here in the city. I've gotta go up/down some steep hills, enter/exit ridiculous minimall & alleyway driveways and putt over the plethora of neighborhood speedbumps.

Seņor 8eights & Monsieur Lazlo, I know I keep asking about these issues... But do you guys know how much clearance I would have if I keep the stock springs and shocks with my 245/40 and 235/75? I guess I could park butt first when it comes to those parking blocks.

You will have plenty of room with the stock springs, I have far bigger tires than yours, I also cut one complete coil in the front.

I think I would be tempted to go with Bilsteins or something over stock for the struts and keep the stock springs. Be much safer on the nose.

That's it, I'm going for the kit.

BTW 8eights, out of curiosity, did u cut an OEM coil or was it H&R or Eibach?

Currently running BILSTEIN Sport struts and shocks with EIBACH springs front and rear. 245/45/17 (front) and 275/40/17 (rear). Csi nose is 3-1/2" above the pavement with this set-up, and yes, you WILL need to be aware of every thing larger than a pebble going under your car - but it does look oh so nice....

So the Eibach with Bilsteins sit a little higher than the H&R/Bilstein, correct?

I have seen it both ways - can't explain it though. I would assume that for all intents and purposes they are pretty much the same amount of drop.

BTW 8eights, out of curiosity, did u cut an OEM coil or was it H&R or Eibach? You can't cut a original front coil because it pertrudes as it winds into the perch, Eibachs are the same size top to bottom which is a good thing if cutting was desired by someon, I cut a H&R front to compensate for the 20' wheels, Eibachs do sit higher and i believe will be to your liking, They are 1 inch lower than stock up front and 0.8 in the rear, They ride fantastic.

Thanks 8eights. I've been thinking about Eibachs paired first with OEM struts, then with Bilsteins (when it becomes time to change struts - maybe in 20k).

Your Welcome Koizumi! I have Eibachs on my #2 car, They are an excellent coil for the E31, They were almost impossible to get about a year ago before Eibach did another run, There also the same springs on the E31 Alpina's!!!

The CSI conversion bumper on my 96 840CI has the following clearances: 4" from ground to flexible "rubber" underside lip, 5" from ground to base of bumper. I am running 18" wheels with 245/40 Michelin Pilot Sport tires and original BOGE strut/shock/springs. I've got a pretty steep driveway and I have to approach it "very" slowly.

mine is still always hitting the ground, its very difficult to get over bumps, exptemely low front end,
