We are replacing the head gasket on an M52 engine. We bought the special tools and installed the fly wheel locking pin, but the cam shaft holder doesn't fit onto the ends. The ends of the cams aren't perfectly in sync. Any suggestions on what to??

did you buy the tool that bleeds all the oil out of the vanos unit?
If not that may be your problem.

if the cam blocks don't fit over the cams, then they're not in time. do you have the vanos already installed? if so, you've got to take it off, put the cams in time, put the blocks on, and reinstall vanos. but there's a proper procedure for installing the vanos to get it timed properly.
