Kevin E21 12-27-2007, 03:53 AM ..like to follow random cars sometimes? Well not random cars, but when you come across another sweet car, not necessarily a BMW, do you follow them for fun, to see if they will acknowledge you?
Haha, I was following a sexy 944 the other night for no reason.
Madhatter 12-27-2007, 09:48 AM No, those cars seem to follow me :D
I know what you mean though, but it would have to be a real special car for me to go out of my way to follow them. Maybe another E21 perhaps :D
busemans 12-27-2007, 10:11 AM i followed a sweet hennarot e21 in november. then later that week i found out it was a buddies car that i didn't even know bought an e21.
Big John 12-27-2007, 10:42 AM its usually a special car to follow eh. Almost always if im driving if i see a decent E21, ill follow it. I kept pace with a new E92 M3 on the local mountain twisties with my old man as shotgun in the E46 M3. That was fun... The man was test driving the car. lol, the dealer guy was edging him on. Now. to beat an M3 in the E21....
blitzed310 12-27-2007, 11:29 AM No, not really.
JTFormula 12-27-2007, 12:54 PM I don't follow cars but if I see another e21 in a parking lot, I always leave my card on the car. There was a super clean e21 in my condo apt complex back in the summer and I left my card on it. They guy called me a few months later and everytime he is up from Florida he gets in touch with me. The car has over 200k on it and its almost as clean as mine.
THE MOVEMENT IS ON
adamalexander 12-27-2007, 02:37 PM This summer I followed a red car that I couldn't identify. It was looked to be mid-sixties vintage, European-style design. Once I got closer I could read the long name: L-A-M-B-O-R-G-H-I-N-I. It was a 400GT from around 1966-68. Great exhaust note from the little V12...
rjk3rd320is 12-27-2007, 03:49 PM THE MOVEMENT IS ON
then lets get another meet going sometime.
Kingoftarmac 12-27-2007, 05:24 PM Yep, X-mas day i followed a sweet colorado orange 2002 that had 15's turbo flares and the turbo rear spoiler, IT sounded as good as it looked, Im a nerd with no life
me and my mates follow hot chicks until they stop so we can chat to them. :)
jjgbmw323 12-27-2007, 10:51 PM No, not really.
I dont follow them, but in My Black GTI i do get waves from R32 owners on the highway.
I did it once, It was a new alpine white E90 coupe. It was a good looking older woman in her early 30's who I know noticed me in my alpine white e21 beacuse as she was slowly passing me we looked at each other and she smiled. I ended up getting behind her for a while and she didn't seem to mind, we drove on for another 25 miles before I had to part ways with her. It was preeety fun as other bmw's who drove past us kept looking at what I guess was a rare sight to see a old school & new school 3 series both white right behind one another :buttrock.
320ipyro 12-28-2007, 01:41 AM i got followed by an audi today. she tried to pass me on the right while i was passing a car, so i decided to be an ass. found out that my truck is limited to 95 mph while trying to stay ahead... audi a4 turbo>07 f150

*high five*
Einundzwanzig 12-28-2007, 02:18 PM I've done this a few times for certain cars if I have no where to be.
BTW, don't try to keep up with an F430 through a turn while in a Honda Accord.
kdanielson 12-28-2007, 02:50 PM I'm too old to follow cute chicks, they would be calling 911 on their cell phones...
My white '78 is totally invisible out here as most older cars are. It's like having a cloaking device! It's good to be invisible to the CHP but a pain in heavy traffic...
Nobody acknowledges it other than a local young guy in his e21 that I see occasionally.

I wish my car was invisible. I get bothered by cops all the time.

i dont know, 6 times in the last month, 16 times total in all my years of driving. but no tickets, i must loook like a nice, responsible person :dunno
but little do they know :devillook
I cant tell for certain how long I was "behind" her for and I will admit I did not mind letting her "take the lead" :devillook.

I mean, I like to think I dress and act appropriately. I in no way come off as a degenerate or a thug, but I get a lot of attention from cops than is neccisary.
Mass State Troopers are extremely corrupt. Nazi's I tell ya, Nazi's.

They are just looking for someone to bother and ticket. This state has too many stupid laws like the front license plate, seat belt or aftermarket exhaust and way too many COPs.
Al Canuck 12-29-2007, 07:34 AM This state has too many stupid laws like the seat belt .
Ummm, Joe? Please please please please tell me you don't think the seatbelt law is STUPID!?!?! You wear your seat belt, right Joe? Joe?

I think the seatbelt law is stupid. I always wear my seatbelt, but I don't think there should be a law that states you must wear one.
It is dumb because how can they determine if you are wearing one while the car is moving. If someone chooses to not wear one and they die in a crash, then that is good for them, but they shouldn't be forced to wear one. Not wearing a seatbelt does not endanger other drivers, so therefore they should let nature take its course and weed out the idiots.
They also have these vague laws that pretty much don't mean anything, and are completely up to the cops discretion. Like "exhibition of speed", or "failure to show care".
busemans 12-29-2007, 01:13 PM ha, never thought about it that way before. that is funny and true

Well my point of view is that the US is built on freedom, and you should be allowed a certain amount of freedom granted that it doesn't harm other people. If someone chooses not to wear a seatbelt, then they should be allowed that freedom.
I just don't think the police should be able to pull you over, and at there discretion write you a ticket because there is so many mundane laws that there is no way at one time to not be breaking a law.
If a cop doesn't like you, he WILL find a way to ticket you. It may only be for 35 dollars, but he will ticket you.
Forgive me for being kind of bitter as I got pulled over the other day for making, what I thought was a safe decision, and I still got ticketed.
The roads were very slick and I was approaching an intersection which had just turned yellow. I decided the best decision was the pass through the yellow light seeing as I would have had to get on my brakes pretty hard were I to try and stop. Well a cop pulled me over and wrote me ticket for "Failure to show care"
What pisses me off is that if I had attempted to stop and locked up my brakes, I would have slid into the intersection, and of coarse the cop would have given me a ticket for that. I thought I made the safest decision, and my action was completely legal as the light was NOT RED!
I guess I miss the point of having a yellow "WARNING" light. We might as well just have only red and green.
busemans 12-29-2007, 03:33 PM i think if you explain to the judge you can get out of that one. i know you still have to go and take t he time but its better then paying to fund the cop that gave you the ticket
Al Canuck 12-29-2007, 04:04 PM See, my argument it that when people don't wear seatbelts, and then the crash, they die. Sure, fine, weed the idiots out that way. But here's the problem. When people crash, and they live, tow truck comes, hauls the wrecks away, and traffic moves forward. When someone dies, road is closed, traffic is snarled to hell, it makes a mess of everything. So, an idiot it dead(good thing), but my commute is hell(bad thing).
Some people aren't smart enough to do things all on their own. For those idiots, we need laws to keep them from fucking up my commute. If some moron doesn't value his own life, then maybe a $138 seatbelt ticket(thats what they cost here), will get it through his melon.
Police here, set up little spot checks for seatbelts. They hang out in the street, and wait for people to come around the corner. They simply look into your car, and pull you over. Always low speed intersections, a few feet up the road. Its a nasty little trap, but I'm fine with it, I always wear my belt.
Al
Layne 12-29-2007, 08:16 PM The way I heard it explained on tv (don't remember who was saying this) is that the idiots won't die, they'll just be severly injured and everyone else will have to pick up the tab for their medical bills. I don't know where the assumption that everone who isn't wearing a seatbelt also must not have medical insurance comes from but thats what they said. Possibly a more valid point in Canada, since everyone else actually does pick up the tab. Obviously plenty of laws are to protect you from yourself, well all know wearing a seatbelt is a good thing so I don't really care if its a law or not.
Kevin E21 12-30-2007, 02:16 AM Regardless, I don't think they should be able to pull you over for it. How can tell if you are wearing it or not. Maybe you only have a lap belt.
I just don't like things that they can bug you about, because it's always your word against the officer. If they say you did it, then you have to prove them wrong, instead of the other way around.
It's guilty until proven innocent. At least here in MA.
320 bimmer 12-30-2007, 02:32 AM well here in cali the lap belt problem is fixed with a law, any car pre 75 doesn't need seatbelts, or full shoulder belts, if its post 75 then its required to have full belts in all seats.
pretty simple. i always wear mine, even in my 73 pickup with lap belts i always wear it, even if the lapbelt wont do shit in a crash...
the whole "law" thing realy realy bugs me, i don't mind about seat belt laws or traffic lights or all that, its the speed laws that bug me the most. if i am safe at higher speeds then i should be allowed to go higher speeds. the fact that other people aren't as compatant on the road as me is a fact, but a stupid one. actually, yeah, i could go on for a very long time ranting and raving about this, but im not going to, i'd bore you all...

thats how they do it here also.
my ghia had lap belts and my mustang didn't have any, that i remember. the lap belts still held you in though, in the seat on hard turns

Al I have no problem with any law its just there are way too many cops looking to give you a ticket. Its just another excuse to pull you over. I once drove past two cops at - of all places - a dunken donuts parking lot- with out wearing my seat belt. As I drove by them, I put it on. I was pulled over right after I drove past them, and they saw I had my seat belt on, but lol - given a ticket for Not having my seat belt on when I went past them, and also supposably failure to signal. Then another cop was walking by, and came over for the fun of it, and a second cruiser pulled behind the first one,
so there where 5 cops..I felt like I was a murder or something....:rolleyes all because I did not have my seatbelt on. After 15 mins of bothering me,
and writing me up a ticket my mother and sister drove past and where also pulled over by the same officer who pulled me over and he tries to say they went threw a red light.
On appeal I showed that unless they had X-RAY vision and could see threw the dunken donuts there was no way they could see my signal. I got the ticket thrown out.
Regardless, I don't think they should be able to pull you over for it. How can tell if you are wearing it or not. Maybe you only have a lap belt.

Yeah thats true. Kevin, myself and even Chris seem to have a lot a scrapes with the law and we are decent law abiding citizens, who encounter cops all the time.
Its not just the seatbelt, its the front license plate, its the aftermarket muffler law, its the head injury surcharge for speeding, its the expired sticker moving violation ticket and any of the other six million laws which MA seems to have on the books to maximize revenue, at your expense.
Now I am not saying that I do not like police, cause I know they do what they
are supposed to do. They enforce the law. I am just saying they go out of there way if see a modified car, they seem to pull it over and start writing you up.
