Hi all, how much do you think it would be to have a clutch put in a 320i? Someone is trying to sell their 320 for 1k, but it has no clutch. Opinions?

Someone is trying to sell their 320 for 1k, but it has no clutch. Opinions? Layne 12-27-2007, 01:44 AM Unless its a real nice car, thats way too much. I don't know what a shop will charge you but it's alot, maybe $700. You can do it yourself though with $200 something in parts. And it could just be something wrong with the hydraulic system for the clutch. Whats the rest of the car like? Al Canuck 12-27-2007, 02:01 AM Book time to do a clutch in an E21 is somewhere between 6 and 7 hours. NOt sure what the average labour rate in your area is, but my shop is $80/hour. Factor in parts cost of what? $250-300, and there you have it. Try just bleeding the system, that's revitalized mine from limp pedal syndrome several times. BavAuto has a really nice full clutch kit - part # CK 320 - comes with everything you need, and sometimes they'll accidently throw in a ton of other parts. Ace22 12-27-2007, 02:20 PM Yes, I will check the milage before I buy, you guys think 1000 is too much for that car? Should I offer 800? blitzed310 12-27-2007, 02:27 PM Yes, I will check the milage before I buy, you guys think 1000 is too much for that car? Should I offer 800? 1k if you have to spend another $800 for a clutch is getting up there, I'd offer him $500ish. Sometimes with older cars shops will cut you a break, and charge a much lower price per hour, or just negotiate a price. I know people do this all the time with older cars. You could also buy the clutch (GripForce sells a clutch kit for $160) and ask them to install it. Jester323 12-27-2007, 02:45 PM Ace, there are a few 320i's here in Portland on CL. You might consider picking up these two, and between the two you could have a good car plus a parts car for about the same $ that you will be spending on that car in CA + clutch install. Were you going to ship it back? Probably too much $ for it, it would have to be super clean & low miles for that price. Ace22 12-27-2007, 05:24 PM Ace, there are a few 320i's here in Portland on CL.
