View Full Version : 95 M3 vs. 06 Mustang GT
cky751 12-27-2007, 01:24 AM The other night my friend and I met up to do a quick race on a long straight away. It was a very cold night and we had been talking about doing this run for a while. My friend's GT was basically a stock 5speed, i think he just had some racing mufflers on it for better sound. I have some weight reduction, 740i HFM, a big custom home made CAI (like the cosmos), turner software, AA 3rd gen exhuast, and UUC pulleys. He had no passengers in the car, but I had one passenger in the car (170lbs). Anyway we start from a slow roll in second, he floored it right away and i guess that was my single to jump even though he got a headstart. But i catch up at third and we are neck and neck, he has about two bumpers on me. As soon as i hit 4th he shuts down, we were both doing about 85 or so. My friend didn't have time to do another run, but I thought the outcome was interesting. I really wouldn't call this a kill at all since it was a very close race. I am proud through that a lightly modded 13 year old car can keep up with a a new mustang gt.

You run 14.1 stock...He runs 13.8 stock
You have mods....He doesn't
With the mods you have you should walk him........
Race again with 3 honks or a flagger
HiRoller 12-27-2007, 12:29 PM I'd put money on that race.... I've seen BONE STOCK 5spd GT's run as low as 13.5 at the track. These mustang threads get better and better.... I'm sure an E36 328i owner will chime in and say " Nice kill....I believe it cause I raced one before and only lost by a bumper" "They have no top end at all.. E36 M3 FTW!" .....
saleen342 12-27-2007, 12:46 PM The first mod your friend should have made was a CAI tuned to 93 octane. That alone would give him 15-20 rwhp. A catback muffler system is worth only 3-5 rwhp on a 05+ Mustang GT.
Hell I'm temped to go out and buy 05+ GT just to shut up these e36 M3 owners. Cause you people seem to always find some of the most non-driving Mustang GT owner I even seen. Plus with 3 simple mods (CAI,UD pullies and headers) the GT would easily kill even the modded e36 M3's out there plus give the e46 M3's a run for their money.

Your kill is realistic, you run low 14's..maybe high 13's with sticky rubber in perfect conditions with a 6 speed and you weigh 4200lbs+. A bolt on 95 should pull you as well.

Whats your point??? my 650i is not a race car....It's a BMW's version of a grand touring car. It's plenty quick for a DD.....and believe me I have an 06 stang that will MORE than pull on YOU. stick to the subject..

35 Grand? More like 26 Grand. Add headers ($6-700) UD pullies ($150-200) and a CAI and a tune ($350-500) you're talking $27,500 for 300 rwhp give or take a horse or two.
If I spend $35 G's then you're talking complete suspension work, brakes, head work and cams, which should be good for at least 350+ rwhp.
Fortunately I don't need 05+ GT. The Cobra can hold its own. :)

Your the one claiming your car is pulled by stock ones, yet your car is slower the o.p's car as well as a GT the quarter? HiRoller states stock Gt's can pull him, yet HiRoller's car is slow?? You have no backbone to your post other than stating one of the two faster cars posted can pull you...Thats called FANBOYism.35 Grand? More like 26 Grand. I'm down as long as the motor wasn't opened up. And your right, your 99 Cobra is good. 270rwhp all motor is solid

You need to take a course in reading comprehension. I NEVER stated my car is pulled by stock ones. (whatever stock ones YOU ARE talking about) I also never stated I was pulled on by a stock GT. If you bother to READ my first post you will see that statement was a quote... see " " that some other e36 delusional member would make about the OP's kill......I could care less what car is faster than my 650. I have a mustang and a 69 camaro that both run 11's for racing.
And don't forget...YOU took this off topic when you brought my car into this. I took the pictures out...just for you. You're right. They had nothing to do with the topic. fanboyism.....just using that term tells me alot about you......

Anybody paying $40 G's for a top of the line GT needs to be bitchslap repeatedly for being so stupid. You should be able to get a option out GT convertible for $33-34 G's.
See my sig for what my car dyno stock.

Under good conditions I'm sure a GT could pull a 13.5 at the track........On the street it is a different story.........The extra traction and great launch that a good driver is gonna get on the 1320 isn't an option at a local stop light..........
Bottom line.......An 05+ Mustang GT stock or with just a cat back will get pulled on by a good running E36 ///M3 with the bolt ons the OP is running.......
None of this shoulda, coulda, woulda...............I don't care if you can buy a GT and bolt on some headers, CAI, and throw a tune on it and then smoke the OP's ///M3..........The the argument could be made that he could throw in a Nitrous bottle and smoke you right back...........
Under the conditions, cars, and mods listed by the OP the ///M3 should have won and if his Rustang driving friend hadn't jumped he would have won......

I'm never doubting anyone in this section again. There's video proof of a 330xi pulling on a g35 and a 328 pulling on a e500 after I called them both out on it. Props to you e36 m3's are probably the one car you can't magazine race it's quicker than HP/TQ numbers imply.

I've seen videos :shifty GT's seem to run out of gas around 120mph (or lower) where M3s seem to excel... on a track, I'd always expect the GT though to put up a faster time due to larger tires for added traction and more low end grunt to get them moving. That's why I've said it a MILLION times.. Being faster in the 1320 doesn't mean your faster on the highway :rolleyes

Yeah, the Audi was fun but when the turbos started to go it was time to sell it. I didn't feel like dumping the $$$ into it to go Stage 3.
The SS would pwn the GT if it was still around.......I'll admit the SS is ugly as sin but it goes fast in a straight line :rofl

It's probably why Peachtree Ford has so many 40k+ Shelby Gt's on the lot, Saleen Gt's, and several other "factory bolt on" style Gt's laying around but no stock manuels. Your car is some kinda freak..I.M.O the best N.A Mustang since the 70's, hince why I took ownership of one. Yours is more like 340 cank not 320! Nice. Most i've seen are around 270ish whp.LOL one piece?? if your rear shocks won't fly through your trunk :Devery E36 track car has 200k on original factory shocks and every mustang has superb stock suspension, drivetrain, and compression after 200k, and 50k of solid track miles.

How about this post from an entirely different thread:
jrhaile, I have no doubts of your abilities but how can you possible go to the track 10-15 times a year and not seen an E46 M3 break 13.6. Thats almost ludacris. Were they all on 30 series with 45psi in the rear? My 20 year old friend ran her stock SMG on 19's with no experience and she still mustered a 13.5 at crappy Commerce after some practice.
Wow...that's almost a played out rapper??? I guess you were making fun of them too..
try to cover it up all you want........you are an illiterate jack ass. Every post sounds like a 12 year old wrote it... I need no sheltering from inbred morons like you.

Haven't had it dyno with the mods. But I got a box full of stickers waiting to be installed then I'll go get it dyno. :D
craaaazzy 12-28-2007, 11:42 AM wow...back on topic.
from personal experience at the silver dollar vs a 2005 or so GT, the GT was running mid to high 13's basically stock except for maybe exhaust. i don't remember his traps. the same day, i ran a best of 13.8 @ 101 but i have trapped at 102/103 once before (probably w/ tail wind). this is on a 95 m3 w/ injectors, intake, chip.
HiRoller 12-28-2007, 12:13 PM wow...back on topic.

I agree....however, with a 2nd gear rolling start I'd have to give the edge to the mustang...they have a lot of torque down low. Rolling in 2nd you eliminate the GT's wheel hop and spin. I'd still put my money on the GT. The E36 M's i've seen at the track hook pretty good in comparison.
Racing from a dig, you're probably right. It's more of a driver's race. Some will run faster.....some slower
This is odd. I've been squashed by a modified Skittle, I've ran neck and neck with a highly modified NA Civic, had my ass handed to me by a 318 with motor swap (AA turbo) but ran shoulder to shoulder with a new Mustang GT. This car looked like a Shelby Cobra GT500 with all the stripes and bigger wheels so I thought I was about to be truly humiliated. I ran right with him through first 3 gears...so, it had to be a disguised GT. Regardless, he didn't take me out and I actually think I may have pulled with some more asphalt. I'm not sure who was more surprised.....gave me a thumbs up and off he went on his merry way. Car sounded incredible.
