i was coming home from doin a little christmas shopping the other night. i was movin down the highway and this new mustang gt, with a nice sounding exhaust, was just taking his jolly old time in the fast lane. so i come up on his tail and he gets over then i hear a downshift and he rips on it a little bit to let me know he wants to play. so i take it down to 4th and do the same. we were moving along pretty fast not totally sure how fast but we both lay into it and 4th we were close. when i hit 5th i started pulling about half a car untill we both let off. then he blew the horn and got off an exit. i saw suprised i held on him but i think my rear gears made the difference.

i have 3.47 gears, it wasnt like i smoked him either, i beat him but it wasnt by too much his headlights stayed right outside my passenger window but definatly redlined 4th and was about 5k rpm in 5th so pretty fast to be honest me and my friend both said after that we never looked how fast we were going

If the mustang is all stock, the top end on the mustang is not as good as the BMW. A 330Ci will take the new mustang gt at Top End. With mods though that can be change. Or if that race was from a stop, he'll get you, until the top end, where you'll cauth up quick, or even from a 2nd gear roll.

I used to have a 94 GT 5.0, doing a Head, Cam, Intake Swap, make that shit feel like a different car. With supported mods, make over 345rwhp.

TOP END?? The new will hit 140+ on the highway. The top speed limiter is set at 149. There is no way a n/a 330CI will keep up with a new GT under any circumstances. There might be a slim chance that the OP was racing a bone stock 06 automatic with the 3.31 gears and the stang wasn't really getting on it because as the OP stated the stang got off at the next exit.

Mustang was on his way back from Christmas shopping too. He had a 500lb gun safe in the trunk.

ehh, not impressed with the newer mustangs GTs. I was dead even with one when my M3 was mostly stock and pulled inches above 110. not really a kill, but still thought he would have pulled more. Not sure if it was an auto, but definatly V8.

The fastest I've personally seen a lightly or stock new gen Stang run was a 13.3 so with your mods that could put you within range of that down a track so that's very believable...

This is only what I've seen though :D

I was supposed to race that Mustang last time I was in Spokane.........

He's got CAI, Exhaust, and a custom tune.............and some suspension mods that might help him get off the line.

The newer Mustangs are only slightly faster than E36 ///M3's when they are stock....13.8 to the ///M3s 14.1 in the 1/4 mile.......

It is possible that the Mustang he raced only had a catback on it or may have even been stock since their exhaust sounds pretty good from the factory........

stock/catback'd new Mustang vs E36 ///M3 with tune, intake, exhaust, and gears puts the win in the ///M3s corner IMO

Pretty sure that is the one..........I know it was a black one..........He's got a short shift kit, BBK cold air, a custom tune with an SCT programmer, and either full exhaust with stock cats or just cat back........13.2 @ 107 is listed in his sig on SpokaneSpeed.net

i have been wondering what my car would do at the track, ive had a good bit of experience at a drag strip so i think i could turn some decent times but ive never seen a new gt get a good start mostly idiot drivers who launch it so they turn mid 14's. saw a gt500 run it was in 12's dunno if it was stock or not

Not true........

You need to go troll SVTPerformance.com or Stangnet.com

I will not deny the amazing capabilities of the 03/04 Terminator Cobras, but the new Cobras are complete crap.

I've read and seen video of modded GT500's in the 12's because with their wonderful open diff they can't get any traction at all and their brilliant rich redneck owners didn't realize that is probably one of the first things they should have done........Instead they throw a smaller supercharger pulley and a tune and some exhaust on the thing and put down 550+ rwhp through a one wheeler peeler.......

absolutely brilliant

Yeah... Ford put an open rear end in the GT500, but the GT's have posi....The problem with launching a GT500 is wheel hop.....the LCA's are junk in all mustangs....now go back to the circlejerk on LS1 tech . com

I know...I was just playing.. but to say the GT500 has an open rear is pretty assinine. I think e36bimmer328is actually likes mustangs......thats why he likes to bash them......or maybe he lost to one a long time ago and hasn't gotten over it yet.:D

My mistake....I recently saw the review of the GT500 on TopGear and I thought I remembered them complaining that it had an open diff.....It actually just has a solid rear axle instead of the IRS that the previous Cobras had......

I had an 04 GT.....It was slow.....I sold it......I don't <3 Mustangs except the 03/04 Terminators

I've owned 28 cars over the last 7 1/2 years..........I've had a bit of everything and I've determined that they all have their ups and their downs.

LSx motors are an incredible platform to work with

No, but I haven't researched any motor swaps/builds for my SS......

For what I'm tryin to do, the LS1 under my hood will do just fine........

Went to Speed Inc's site and that looks to be a good motor for a good price.

The Katech LS7 would take $29k out of your pocket:D
