Would replacing factory installed dino gear oil with Red Line synthetic gear oil affect the operation of my expensive Dinan limited slip differential? Unsubstanciated advice claims synthetic, of the same viscosity, is too slipperey for the clutches in an LSD. I know nothing of the mechanics of a differential, other than the fact that an LSD allows either rear wheel to drive.

Everything i've seen suggests synthetic. Look for the LSD blend, lots of compaines, including red line I belive, have this, but this isnt required.

Red Line 75w90 should be fine for this use and it contains friction modifiers specifically for limited slip differentials. But before changing lube I'd suggest that you contact Dinan and see what fluid they advise you to use.

From what I know you have to use a specific Lsd oil, regular synth gear oil could render your diff less effective or damage it, especially if you drive the car on a regular basis. Something top do with damaging the plates? Give Dinan a call and see whats recommended or at least use a high quality oil with a friction modifier and specifies suitable for lsd use, such as Redline 75W90. You can also get a friction modifier additive from redline, but im not sure if you can add this to a regular gear oil.

Yes that what i have heard to. You cant use regual fluid with an LSD
