Hello

I just purchased a 2005 530i (11/2004 production) without factory navigation. I was informed by two sources at the dealership (not sales) that you can add a factory navigation unit to and, or replace, the factory iDrive computer. Does anyone if this can be done?

Thanks

it will be super expensive around 4k plus you will need to have someone who knows what they are doing, plus about 2 hours at the dealer to reprograming

I'm not sure that it can be done. I kind of doubt it, but maybe. You'd have to buy a new CID (the I-drive screen) which is probably $1k or more, then you'd have to buy a new CCC (the main computer and disc drive unit), which is probably $2-3k minimum. And also, a new trim panel to go over everything. Then installation, and all associated programming/retrofitting. If it is even possible, it's not worth the trouble/cost.

My parents bought a 535i over the summer and are now wondering the same thing. Does anyone have any more information about this? What is actually different between a car with nav and one without? Does it really require a new iDrive screen?

yes, because the screen with NAV is much wider.

I'm almost certain that it can't be done. I seriously doubt the wiring harnesses are even the same.
