I'm kind've specifically asking for a 2003 owner because I have a small problem with my side-mirrors. I bought my car used and the mirrors were faded and blurry. The left one in particular was giving off a double image of clear and green.

I had them replaced with new ones at Long Beach BMW, and the new ones of course are not faded, but the left one is still giving off a double image. It's as though I'm looking at a 3D image without 3D glasses.

You know how a 3D image that required glasses is like a double image of red and blue? Well, change those colors to clear and green, and you've got my left side mirror. Clear meaning, it's like looking through a normal mirror. Green meaning, you're looking through a mirror with a green tint to it. It makes the image in the mirror seem very blurry. Is this normal at all?

Two headlights on a car will produce a set of two yellowish-white headlights and two green headlights right next to them....the double image I'm talking about. Not to mention....my left mirror produces the yellowish-white headlights, the middle mirror in the cab makes headlights appear white, and so does the right mirror.

They're just not consistent.....so...in summary

1. Is the double image normal on the side mirror? Also, if you're willing, could I see your car and see how your stock mirrors look at night?
2. I'm reading that the clown-nose red light under the center mirror is turnable to change the light intensity of the mirror? I can't turn mine, nor do I have an alarm system. The light doesn't work either. What am I doing wrong?

I think you might be having some issues with auto dim. You might not be used to it. If you can't turn your clown nose you don't have auto dim. I've never noticed the double image thing you speak of, but it might be because I'm used to it. I'm about to go out, I'll report back if I see it.

Yeah, I don't have any double image when driving at night, but I have noticed the green halo during the day, I think that is just because of auto dim.

Hummmm. I CAN turn my clown nose, but I do not have auto dim. Also, my clown nose light did not light up when I locked the car. I thought it was because I do not have an alarm. I took it to the dealer and they coded it to light up when the doors are locked. As far as the mirrors... I'm not sure on that one??? Is your car exposed to lots of sun? Mine is also an '03 btw.

On my 2007 Coupe I do not have the auto dim feature. I am able to rotate the clown nose to manually switch between day (no dim) and night (dim) views.

I suspect that you need to put the mirror into the day view and then adjust your viewing angle for normal day time vision. Then when you switch the mirror to the night mode, it will give you the dimmer view. The only difference between the day/night views is the viewing angle through the mirror. I am guessing, if you have the auto dim feature, you may have the viewing angle of the mirror wrong which defeats the dim feature. Try changing the angle during the day and see what you get. Hope this helps.

Maybe it is mirror placement. Here is the correct way to adjust your mirror. I have my mirrors adjusted this way and have no problems with double vision:

Trust me IT WORKS! No more blind spot. Give it a few weeks to get used to it, but once you do, you won't even have to look over your shoulder to change lanes.

I'm going to be bringing my car back to the dealer to take a look at it. It's a pretty obvious thing. If you take a small flashlight and kneel down to side-mirror level, and shine it from about 15 feet into the mirror, if a person in the car looks through the left mirror to see the flashlight, they will see a white light and a green light.

It gets pretty annoying.

Did you try readjusting your mirrors?

I was skeptical about this advice, but followed it about a year ago. I moved the mirrors slightly about once a week until the view was as they said it should be (i'm an old dog and used to my mirrors a certain way). It's great, i love it! As a motorcyclist, I wish everyone had their mirrors this way and used them! Get off the danged phone.
