Maybe control arms?

Shimmy can be a variety of problems.

Do your snow wheels have the proper hub size, and if not, are you using the hub centric spacer rings? Have you thrown your summer wheels back on for a test?

+1 ^^^

I bought steelies and winters for my Volvo last year and the shimmy just wouldn't go away. Turned out the tire shop's computer identified the wrong hub size. Even with plastic hubcentric rings it never went away. I ended up going to the dealer for wheels.

I had the same thing happen at 50. My indy mechanic said it could be balancing or hard spots in the new tires. I think it was the latter because it doesn't happen anymore. It stopped after about 200 miles.

most comon culprit for the dreaded front-end, 45-55 mph shimmy are the control arm bushings. best to put the car up on a hoist and shake/wiggle each wheel (this was how my indy diagnosed my car in addition to my complaints). had front/rear done topped off with an alignment and best part was I onlly paid $100 deductible (warranty is a good thing).

If the bushings were the big ones in the control arm...did the mechanic make the final tightening of the bushing's nut while the car was still in the air...or did they lower it to where the car was on its suspension, then tightened.

If like the older e32 7 series...the control arm bushing required tightening when the car was lowered to be correct. If someone has an e38 Bentley...check it out and report back. :)

i am not sure , he said "you need an wheel eligment and we dont do that here" maybe i should take it in to Autowerkes? are they any good?
