hey guys, my oil light has turned on showing minimal oil.
I want to add oil myself, just wondering what kind of oil you guys use for your 06' 325i's
On another note, the light is indicating low on oil, not an oil change, right???????

Wow, did they not include an owner's manual with your car either? Must be an epidemic.

BMW is slacking off a little. I got part of my manual, but not all.

Now that others have chastised you for asking first before reading the manual, let me help here. My car, an '07 328xi, takes 5W30 fully synthetic oil. In fact, on my oil cap has an embossed statement, something like "this car likes Castrol". That said, if you need oil, any name brand synthetic in 5W30 will work. I personally use Mobil 1 and will probably start using their 0W30 if I can find it.
According my manual, once the engine is warmed up fully, and you get a low oil indicator, it should mean than you are below the "min" mark. What does your dipstick read? My car doesn't have one so I am at the mercy of the computer. According to the technicians, the new, dipstick-less BMWs can have oil sensing issues if the oil is warm but there is still moisture in the crankcase that hasn't been burned off by an extensive drive. I just went through this with my SA.
Yes, the light means you are low on oil and not for an oil change, at least on my '07.
Oh, RTM. :cool

Why would I expect nothing less from "the hack" than non-helpful and condescending?
Check your trunk, some people report they have a spare quart in there...I don't. Also I've heard if you go to the dealer they will top it off for you, but it is just as easy to go pick up some oil and add it. Check the manual, which OBVIOUSLY if you're sitting at work don't have in front of you, when you get a chance. Be careful not to overfill...engines don't like that :)
Dealer will top it off for free.

Free oil > $$$ oil. Go to dealer, you can usually snag a free donut while you are waiting.

I have almost 7K on my car. No dip stick and have to wait a good 15 to 20 minutes of driving before I can get the computer to give me an oil level. So far at the max.
