I just had this done on my 98 740i with 87k and it made a huge improvement: more power, better throttle response, smoother running. I'm sure my fuel economy will improve too.

This is the third car I've had this done on, each time with the same dramatic results. If your car has 50k miles or more, I highly recommend you have it done. Don't bother with off-the-shelf additives. I've tried them and nothing works like this.

For those who don't know, MotorVac is an engine decarbonization procedure that is widely recommended by technicians. It cleans the valves, pistons, rings and combustion chambers. Here's the gizmo that does it:

Do you have any before and after read-outs or graphs or is just the "butt-dyno"?:D

LOL

Never heard of it. Sounds like that stuff you put in your gas tank and drive around like you usually would and it cleans your engine out.

I had a local shop do it. You need to ask around to find a shop that has the equipment to do it.

Just remove the cylinder heads and take them down to a machine shop to have them work their magic.

Note: you must use a different car to drive the cylinder heads down to the machine shop.

Well, I doubt the MotorVac gets everything THAT clean, but then again it's only $130, takes about 1 hour and your engine gets to stay in one piece. :D

Sea Foam?

Sea Foam?

+1 $8 for seafoam fed through the intake, 15 minutes > $130 and an hour for the same results.

Try it. Buy 3 cans of seafoam. Run one through a tank of gas to clean your fuel system, put one in your crank case a few hundred miles before you next oil change, and feed one through your intake (a vacuum line). The ending results are very pleasing.
