A guy I work with was quoted $5k (+) at the stealership to replace the cats on his e38 750iL

He's a good guy and would rather give the $ to a local guy but is also looking for a better price than the stealership...

Well, OEM cats for a 750 IL aren't cheap, and putting something aftermarket is something I don't suggest; but he can certailnly get the cats and have a shop like...lets say...hem....:)Panther Automotive in Lawrence MA to do the job.
The price will be a lot cheaper and the Customer Service is great. They're very familiar with these cars.
PM if you need details.

Yeah I have heard on the e38's that after market cats are a no go, and you should use OEM

Check out German Performance Services in Cambridge - I took my E36 M3/4 and they did a great job on a Saturday for me (RTABs & some other stuff). I'd highly recommend them.

Thanks... I'm just thinking that you can get a sweet e30 or even e36 for that price... How the heck can two cats & 4 o2 sensors cost $5k?

Well, Realoem lists the price at $1600 per cat... I could imagine each O2 is around $100, so that is right at $3600 on the low end for parts pricing. Holy crap!

The stealership quoted him $5,800 for the job... I was like... I'll do it!!!

Then I got a quote for the parts and the guy (BLUNT on r3v) told me the best he could do was $1,789.90 + shipping... o2's are $109 (non heated pre-cat) and $145 (heated post-cat)... so o2's x4 and cat x 2 = $4,087.80... Pre tax... parts only... not including shipping...

What kind of 2002/e21/e30/e36 (even e46??) could you get for 4 G's???
