View Full Version : 328is vs. 2007 GTI
drpctp 12-18-2007, 11:27 PM When I was coming back from PA I was traveling through the Hollland tunnel, when I noticed a black Gti on my right. It was 11pm and there were no cars in the tunnel. He first passed me at about 50mph and then I down shifted from 4th to 3rd and passed him, at this point he noticed me trying to race. Then he gunned it and was half a car length ahead of me for up to 95mph, once we hit 105 I started pulling on him, when I red lined 4th gear I was at 115mph and at that point he was 1 car length behind me. Once I hit a 120-122 I slowed down because the tunnel was ending. It was a close race, but I can't verify if he was modded or not. The only mods that I have are: 3.23 lsd, CAI, and M50 manifold.
Sam Son 12-18-2007, 11:42 PM nIce....but I think they have cameras in that tunnel
ohnoes 12-18-2007, 11:54 PM Racing through the Holland tunnel = :rofl.
OMGWTFBODY 12-19-2007, 12:02 AM nIce....but I think they have cameras in that tunnel
Post pics of the ticket so we know who trapped higher.

:lol
drpctp 12-19-2007, 12:26 AM It wasn't a good Idea, but I have a Valentine one, and at 11pm there was no traffic. My cousin is a cop, so if I do get into trouble he can help me out.
whosyadadie01 12-19-2007, 01:51 AM idk how much he can do to get rid of an existing ticket
but thats a funnie situation
00323i 12-19-2007, 09:15 AM ummm...doing 100+ in the tunnel, the way your story goes, that tunnel is not long enough, to stop when you exit the tunnel.
I guess it could be done.
Like the others said, post the ticket with the pic of your car, so we can see times. lol
j/k
Shodanusmc 12-19-2007, 10:54 AM The GTI is that slow? I thought they were faster.
trevordr 12-19-2007, 12:39 PM The GTI is that slow? I thought they were faster.
They are faster... than a 328.
ImportFanatic 12-19-2007, 02:41 PM MkIV's no, MkV's yes. I remember reading that MkIV's choke up top, but a front mount usually helps, not sure if it's the same case for the V's.
beamah328is 12-19-2007, 06:27 PM Wow, the 2 lanes in that tunnel are so narrow to be going 100+
Good thing u didn't hit the wall.
Revin2Ten 12-19-2007, 06:38 PM MKV GTI's with the 2.0t FSI motor are capable of 14.5-14.6@94-95mph completely stock.
drpctp 12-20-2007, 04:30 PM I'm not sure if he was automatic or manual, he sounded stock. lOL
If I was stock I think it wouldn't be a fair race.
328is stock 5 speed 193 hp + intake, m50 manifold, and 3.23 lsd.
206 tQ
VW GTI 2007 200hp
207 tq

jumpin jack 12-21-2007, 01:14 AM good kill man, a worthy adversary:buttrock
rewopM 12-21-2007, 01:26 AM good kill
yea lets see the ticket....wah?
NYY42 12-21-2007, 02:11 AM Well..a 328 with a few boltons is faster then an e36 m3..
drpctp 12-21-2007, 02:14 AM Well..a 328 with a few bolt ons is faster then an e36 m3..
sarcasm .....
drpctp 12-21-2007, 02:15 AM good kill
yea lets see the ticket....wah?
no ticket. Lucky me
NYY42 12-21-2007, 02:18 AM sarcasm .....
Not quite..
OBD1 conversion, m50 manifold, chip, pulleys + lsd
drpctp 12-21-2007, 02:28 AM A stock 328is is rated at 165 to 170 whp
A stock OBD2 M3 " " 205 to 210 whp
It would be quite hard to make 40 hp from an OBD 1 conversion, m50 manifold, chip and pulleys. If you consider s52 cams then I would say yes to that.

I've seen plenty of dynos of 328s with those mods making 200+rwhp
drpctp 12-21-2007, 02:42 AM In that case I need to get a chip, pulleys and an OBD1 conversion, how much does it cost to do an OBD 1 conversion?
vibes 12-21-2007, 02:50 AM This has been covered so many times. You can make a 328 faster than an m3 with bolt ons.
While the M3 has more horsepower and a slight amount more torque, the 328 is not too far behind with torque. I beat stock and lightly modded m3's in my 328.
BavariaMotorist 12-21-2007, 03:12 PM I don't know how loud your cars are, but my car would deafen me if I raced through that tunnel.
drpctp 12-21-2007, 11:33 PM Not very loud, but the intake makes the car,, sound a little louder, when I red line sometimes people turn their heads to see whats coming their way. I will definitely get an exhaust soon.
cky751 12-21-2007, 11:57 PM Not quite..

thats hardly a few bolt-ons, thats a lot of work
NYY42 12-22-2007, 01:41 AM thats hardly a few bolt-ons, thats a lot of work
we have different ideas of "a lot of work";)
TeamSlowdotOrg 12-22-2007, 02:11 AM The stock new GTI traps 94 mph. An E36 328 with those mods should be trapping 95 or so. What's so unbelievable? From a stop it wouldn't be much of a contest if both drivers can drive well, GTI's don't exactly leap off the line when they're stock.

That 328 is trapping a bit higher then that..trust me. My 325 with intake/exhaust/chip + 3.38lsd trapped 98
drpctp 12-22-2007, 03:27 AM What does a stock 328 trap at?

Consider that statement is true, what bolt on do I have to do to beat an M3 on my 01 330Ci?
