i've got a loose wire in my engine compartment on the drivers side next to the oil filter housing. it is shown in the pics with the blue arrow pointing to it (pic #1). it has a ring connector on its end but attaches to nothing. i also took pics of the wire as it leaves the connector into a black tape wrapped harness (pic #2 ). & continuing its path as it disappears into a wiring wrap behind a connector in pic #3...does anyone know what this wire may go to???

my only choice seems to take apart the engine compartment panel/housing which this wire seems to follow, but short of that any help/suggestions?

thanks all.

The ring connector indicates its likely a ground wire of some sort. To what I don't know.

+1

Also ground wires tend to be black or brown.

i agree ring connectors ar typically used for ground wires, but if so wouldn't it be simply enough to o just connect to a good ground somewhere in the engine??.. that really confuses me.. do either of you see a connector like this in yours anywhere near this area or coming from that same wiring harness (front part of engine compartment, drivers side)?

I wouldn't ground it to the engine block itself, just too many moving parts.

I'd just reground it to the body of the car somewhere, IE the ground bolt in the drivers side strut.

It should be attached to the Oil filter housing bolts - someone has replaced the cotton reels cos they break after a while and not put it back

That would make sense, you can see them in the bottom of the first picture.
