Anybody know the secret to removing flywheel bolts from 3 liter v8?? I broke 2 TORX 50 sockets already, after having to shave them down a little. Maybe I should load the motor on my truck and drive it to BMW mechanics ??

I found out when trying to do the same thing that there is a special tool just for removing those bolts, it's basically a torx bit but a little longer i think. Have you tried spraying any break free or something similar on the bolts to try to help loosen them up? Good luck with your project!

Hi Josh.Tried it all. Sprayed WD 40, tried right drive impact, left side impact,,, guess I will load it up and drive to BMW. If BMW put it together they should be able to rip it apart, right<?? May be cheaper to pay the 50 Euro than to keep buying those Torx at 20 Euro each...

SnapOn torx bit with a long neck. I think it was T60. If you don't get the right tool you will never get it off unless you get creative with a welder.

Refer to this thread. I had the same issues. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=737970&highlight=flywheel+tool

Just be glad it's not the torque converter bolts on a VW/Audi. Dealer only tool so far as I've been able to find. Got a Matco tool to work, but man, I wouldn't want to do that one again.

it's easy if you have the BMW special tool.
