Any '87-91 needs to be either a 325is or 318is. Willing to pay up to around 1500 for the right car. Does not need to be in great cosmetic shape, needs to run(or be very close to, blown HG/etc is acceptable). 5 speed is a must. mileage is something i dont really care about. If you have this car, great. I am also willing to throw down a finder's fee if you can find me a car(if you know someone who has it or find it on craigslist, and I end up buying it, you make some cash). I would pay like 50 bucks, or up to 100 if you find the amazing car that I am looking for. I am very serious about buying some, but I have been looking for the last few months and not found a whole lot. Thanks, Steve

Steve,
My roommate's car will be for sale in the next few weeks. It's going to be a bit more expensive than what you're looking to pay. I'll give you some specifics, anyways...
It's a 1990 325iS 5-speed. It's a very early 1990 model with no airbag. Faded lachssilber paint with a fair condition grey leather interior. Mechanically the car is fairly solid. It's an original San Diego car, so no rust. Brand new motor mounts today, needs to have it's suspension replaced as most E30's with stock suspension do. It's got 160,xxx miles.
Runs fine, tires are Falken Azenis RT-615 on stock 14" Basketweaves. 5,000 miles or so left in the fronts, maybe 8,000 in the rears. Brakes are at 40% front and 80% rear.
Body is fairly straight -- some door dings and some small creasing on the passenger-side rear fender lip.
Z3 short shift kit and ZHP weighted shift knob. Also has a nice Kenwood headunit and Infinity speakers.
He's going to be looking for about $3,000.
Anyhow, there's the info. In case you want to spend the money, let me know...
Ben

thanks a lot ben, but i just don't think it is in the budget for me right now for the inital price. I am sure the car is great, but I am looking into making more of an onlasting project. At this point, i think my budget is actually pushing me towards buying a car with blown head gasket or a snapped timing belt. I definitely appreciate the response though. Though I am heading in a different direction, your E30 has definitely been a source of inspiration/want of one for myself.

Oh man, I missed a killer deal a couple of months ago when I was in Irvine. A lady was selling a red 87 325is w/ 144k miles for $1k
I'm still kicking myself for not jumping on that sooner... I called the next day and it was sold :(
Good luck with your search... cheap E30s seemed to have disappeared
