Was on my way to work friday afternoon heading north on I95. I saw a Z8 Alpina that i have seen in a few places around town and have met the driver befpre. He got onto I95 and got stuck in traffic one lane over from me. I Found an opening and took it. He saw it and followed me in, good hole through traffic.

We hit open road and im already WOT, this guy is right on my ass waiting for a lane opening, he slingshots around me and passes me like its nothing. I KNEW i wasnt gonna win this one, We msut have been doing close to 120 when i let off the gas.

Great car, cool guy. I have some pics of it somewhere on my comp.

it sure doesnt look like an alpina, doesnt have alpina wheels or anything. But then, it doesnt have to have the rims per se, could have not wanted them. once I get a cord for my camera I will upload 3 or 4 alpina Z8 pics I have.

isn't the regular z8 faster than the alpina one?

I've heard the same thing actually. My buddy owns BOTH and he says Alpina did actually decrease the horsepower, and also make the suspension softer.

They detuned it down to like 375bhp and did some odd stuff... there is a whole Top Gear clip on youtube about it...

It's interesting what they did to it.

Clarkson kinda made sense on what he said on them trying to confine it to 1 segment rather then a million that it was in.

It doesn`t have Alpina wheels or the badge on the back, can`t see the gauges and the steering wheel quite well from that angle though.

I don`t think that s62 was used in the Alpina version of the Z8, it has the v8 from x5 and some 7 series, more torque but less power.

Lol I'd take the "regular" Z8 over the Alpina any day.

I do agree with Clarkson though, (haven't watched that vid in a while but I remember it pretty well) the auto transmission and the lazier, torquier engine would suit the nature of the Z8 a little better but I'd prefer a manual with the original BMW engine.
