You can buy a whole set for about the price of a tire. harryu 12-18-2007, 12:05 AM Thanks for the feed back but...It's been an early very cold winter in Chicago and my tpms was continuously reporting my sport tires as under inflated. I'm just tired of the whole over-engineered concept. I'm just tired of the whole over-engineered concept. I know when I have a flat. Not with an RFT you won't. I had a flat and couldn't believe it until I verified with a gauge the tire was down twice after inflating. Since the car was designed and assembled with RFTs, the TPMS/FTM is a must. I don't believe you can disable it, but if you have the sensors and it is still bugging you, it may need to be reset. harryu 12-18-2007, 06:35 AM Agree that it's hard to tell if you have a flat on rflts. But my new snows are not rflts. I bought the Dunlop WinterSports and new wheels, and did not pay for the sensors. Would love to see the warning lights go away for the winter. mryakan 12-18-2007, 12:02 PM Agree that it's hard to tell if you have a flat on rflts. But my new snows are not rflts. Gig103 12-18-2007, 12:15 PM Sorry, Harry, but it's law* that TPMS be installed in new cars, so BMW isn't going to make it an option that can be disabled. If it makes you feel better, look at it like the seatbelt chime - safety alerts can't be disabled. *My Source (http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/rulings/TPMS-FMVSS-No138-2005/part1.html) sor 12-18-2007, 01:37 PM get the sensors ;).That's kind of where I got confused too. He doesn't like the TPMS alarm, so he does something that will ensure that it's always on. If we can't help with turning the alarm off, perhaps we can help figure out of the issues he's had with TPMS that led to this are normal or a malfuction. I know when the weather got cold and I let my car sit for two weeks I had to reset them once. Since then it's been both warmer and much colder with no issues. Danny 335i 12-18-2007, 03:13 PM Just go for the chump change for the new sensors and be done with it. Blue330i2006 12-18-2007, 03:41 PM Pull the Fuse! harryu 12-18-2007, 03:43 PM How much is the chump change? harryu 12-18-2007, 03:49 PM That's kind of where I got confused too. I know when the weather got cold and I let my car sit for two weeks I had to reset them once. Since then it's been both warmer and much colder with no issues. My issues with my summer tires are that the tpms system needed constant resetting as it got colder, even when the tire pressure was correct. Tech suggested they might be malfunctioning. Not a big deal..Just a question. I believe it is another case of overengineering but I'm old school. I think the seat belt presenter is over-engineering too. TRICHMAN 12-18-2007, 04:42 PM Just installed non rft blizzaks. Bought the wheels from tire rack. Sensors and required valve were $46.00 for each tire. Scroll down on Turn control to tires and reset from there. I do not know if this will work without sensors. Suggest you call tire rack they are very helpful. E92!Dreier 12-18-2007, 07:27 PM FYI-- You can also (I believe) remove the sensors from your other wheels and use them on this set. You'd have to ask either your Service Advisor or someone from a reputable tire/wheel company. Bavarian Autosport (18005352002) is also a vendor who sells the tpms. So if they need constant attention maybe they are defective. sor 12-18-2007, 07:44 PM I'd agree with you on the seatbelt arm in the coupe, but the TPMS is a pretty common technology these days, you might be surprised at how many cars and trucks have them. AdamIsAdam 12-18-2007, 10:10 PM this is a big deal on the Prius forums (or so I'm told). My friend lives upstate NY and they all run 4 snows there. His sensors are $80each. He gets a constant warning light on the dash. So he went WAY WAY old school for a fix. Wanna guess what he did? raleedy 12-18-2007, 11:47 PM Wanna guess what he did? No, thanks. AdamIsAdam 12-19-2007, 12:59 AM Oh, you're no fun. Good ol' electrical tape over the light. Trick from back when the "check engine" light was first put into service. mryakan 12-19-2007, 01:28 AM Oh, you're no fun. Good ol' electrical tape over the light. Trick from back when the "check engine" light was first put into service. lol I though of that before I read this. I remember that trick. However, how did he solve the audible alarm issue? AdamIsAdam 12-19-2007, 08:37 AM ...how did he solve the audible alarm issue? He bought a Prius. It's only a light, no alarm. Oh, and I also heard there are issues with the car sensing both sets of tire sending units if you keep the spare set near where the car is parked (ie, in the garage). I could find out the details if you need them. Or go to the Prius board (those geeks like to post more than we do!) and read about it. sor 12-19-2007, 06:14 PM Interesting. For what it's worth, I keep my extra set about 10 feet away from my car in the garage and have not had the issue. I'd imagine it would have to be really close, otherwise the car would mix up it's own four tires! Gambit Mtrsprt 12-20-2007, 01:56 AM I think the seat belt presenter is over-engineering too. This can be disabled by a single fuse. After getting tired of mine spazzing once a month or so, it got disabled. :) Forget the fuse number, found it on the forum, but airbags don't complain and passenger weight sensor still triggers an alarm if their seat belt isn't on. Mad Dragon 12-20-2007, 11:26 PM Pull the Fuse! That's not going to stop the warning light. harryu 12-20-2007, 11:45 PM After a week now, I'm just dealing with it. Still feel tpms is an imperfect system as is the whole concept of run flats with no spare. Now, however, since I bought the snow tires I have a spare (one of my summer tires) in my trunk with a jack and a wrench and I'm a happy camper. Mad Dragon 12-21-2007, 07:18 AM You know, the Winter Sports are available as run-flats. harryu 12-21-2007, 09:48 AM Thanks but I don't like the concept of runflats. Almost got stranded for a weekend in the middle of nowhere because I didn' t have a spare this summer. They're also kinda stiff and noisy. Sorry but I'm old school. AdamIsAdam 01-06-2008, 10:29 PM I'm driving a loander IS250. I noticed its got PSI sensors for TWO different set of tires. You select set A or B from the dash. |
