So, I noticed when you build your own 328 or 335 coupes on the new bmwusa.com, the exterior picture depicts black window trim. is this an official change for 2008 or just a huge tease. The old configurator used to show the chrome trim. Just curious as I would much rather have black trim when I order mine. Thanks!

BTW - I know you can get the shadow line trim in other countries and assume this is why the website does it, but just hoping.....

Is it that on the 328 it's black and on the 335 is silver? I know with my Audi the smaller engine car had black trim and the "higher lines" had silver.

All I can say for certain is that my '08 335i coupe has silver trim.

My '08 335xi coupe also has silver trim.

It was my understanding that the 335 gets chrome and 328 is black. And it's been that way for many years.

True.

And in 2007 all Coupes (328/335) and the 335 Sedan got the Chrome trim. The only one with black was the 328 Sedan.

The OP is right though, the new configurator shows both Coupes with black trim and both Sedans with chrome trim. I would tend to believe the pictures are mixed up.

The dealer should be able to sort it out. And if you're concerned, make them write it on the sales contract so it's a binding part of your agreement, then if the car arrives different than you agreed you're safe.

My '08 328i coupe has aluminum trim (not chrome), just like the 335i coupe and sedan. AFAIK the only 3 series car with black trim is the 328i sedan (I don't know about the M3). I suspect the configurator is wrong, as it seems to be with some views of the sedan. Man, it looks plain and stark to me in black.

Actually the 2007 335 Coupe trim is brushed aluminum rather than the chrome that is on the 328 Coupe.

Funny, I really like the all-black look! Very minimalist design, quite beautiful and understated IMHO. :cool It is very stark though, indeed; less bling!

+1, although the chrome grill does provide a nice contrast on black, I added that on my car.

I'm sure you're right about that. I lump the chrome and aluminum together from the exterior trim perspective. So the 328 Sedan is black and all the rest are non-black. :)

Is the black front grills something you buy from BMW or 3rd party?

Black grill comes standard on 323/328, but just the grill slits not the contour nor the mustache on top which are standard chrome (BMW tradition). You can get that grill from BMW. If you are looking for an all black look, you have to go aftermarket or DIY. I saw a DIY on here or e90 post once on that topic.

the black vertical slats on the grill is stock for 328. Chrome is 335.

Thanks. I like the black gril slits better than chrome. I would love to go all black - will look for aftermarket parts.

AFAIK, only the 335 (and the 330 before it) come with the chrome treatment.

I want to go all black also. Both the grills and the "mustache" part. They are the only chrome on my black car (besides the roundels) and looks out of place to me.

A quick search turns up this.

Any other links would be appreciated. I'm going to order something within the next couple of weeks.
