I am looking at upgrading the headlights on my e46 for christmas. some of you guys have seen my hideous ebay lights that are a true testiment to you get what you pay for aka ebay=shit.

So what i am looking to do is upgrade to HID and have very bright halos. Ideally somewhat of a bluish hue. Any help from Texas?

Stick with OEM lighting assemblies whenever possible. If you currently have projectors I would just go ahead and install a HID kit in your existing lights.

take your headlights apart and paint the chrome inserts black. put HIDs in the projectors and call it a day.

my current light assemblies are not OEM. I can replace them with my previous OEM assemblies. But my previous ones aren't projectors.

you can get AEs seperately, i had a brand new set a while ago for E46, sold them for $50 or something. Check e46fagnatics, i'm sure someone is selling a used set.
