Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on doing a track event or autox with completely dead shocks/struts? Is it a terrible idea? Id like to get one or two events off before I move and become even more broke. Im just too poor to get the bilsteins and h&r's right now.

Well let's see. I did one autox with a single rear shock blown, and on a transition, the car launched way up on two wheels. Luckily, it came down again on all four and didn't roll. However, it did come down hard enough to cause the front wheel to hit the fender and bend it...

Just think - the shocks control the motion of the spring. Without anything damping the springs, if you get enough weight on one side of the car, then cut the other way, the springs will fully extend as fast as possible. May not quite be enough to flip the car right there, but it would probably get worse cone-by-cone in a slalom.

If your shocks are dead, use the money that you're going to spend on track days/autocrosses towards new shocks. Or, park the car until you can afford to fix it. Or use the money that you're planning on spending on cosmetic stuff, like M3 bumpers and skirts, more wisely. Otherwise, you can quickly become really, really broke.

alright thanks guys... maybe I'll just spring for the bilsteins and get the H&Rs later.
