Its been 1.5 years since I put in my dj auto headlights from understeer. I have ran through six bulbs in my lo beams. i lost one bulb thursday night and the second on friday leaving me stranded with only hi's

anyone had a similar problem or know how to fix it?

so i found that using gloves during instal to prevent skin oils getting on the bulbs helps.

will this one simple thing give you a respectable bulb life?

possibly, id be more worried about the fact that u have electrcal gremlins. sounds like there is something wrong with the resistance on ur light. it wouldnt be the fuses since if they were gone u wudnt have any power at all. make sure everything is wires up properly and none of hte wires are loose.

uhhh, thats your problem for sure

its a simple thing, but huge

you dont have to use gloves just dont touch the glass part

Well, on an E36, its pretty hard to NOT touch the glass part. But yes, wear gloves, they're halogen bulbs that are very sensitive to oils and the like

This is happening with me with depo's i blow them all the time and i have not once touched the bulb not even with the glove. Im guessing its fuses or i was told also possibly a wireing problem if its getting a bad connection. I am just going to upgrade to xenons because i was told this problem would not persist.

what bulbs are you buying?
did you check the yellow wire (inside the low beam housing) to see is its frayed a shorting out? same thing on the pnp end, sometimes a couple of strands will get loose from the pin connectors and cause the bulbs to short out.
if all else fails go hids, that will solve your problem.:)

Not quite... I told you that Apexcone will be sending you a replacement pair of bulbs for free, to not touch the bulbs when you install them and to make sure the terminals are tight on the bulbs. My comment about temporarily swapping the bulbs from the high beams was in reference to you being "stranded" and driving around with just your high beams on.

I'm sorry I didn't want to change out my bulbs at 10:00 in a dark parking lot.

I appreciate the new bulbs, and at the time i only knew you were trying to get the replacements.

I've been using the apexcone super blues from understeer. I just bought some cheap sylvania's at Wal Mart for the time being.

I'll be sure to check out all that, thanks, and I very well might have to go HID

Good excuse to use when i bought the hid's. not a problem since.

its not the lights or anything else but the bulbs, the super blue bulbs don't last and are nor reliable enough for headlight use, they are OK for occasional fog lights use, the blue dye they use on them combined with the high wattage are a certain recipe for a short lifespan. dump them.

The problem are not the bulbs. The problem is the alternator that is going bad. Go and check it at the local auto parts. I'm telling you because I went thru this and spent a lot of money buying bulbs by the time I realized what it was.

I replaced my alternator 5 weeks ago and the problem still occurs. I use sylvania silverstars and stock oem replacment h1. Also mine is only happening on my drivers side the passengerside silverstar has been a trooper.

The pins on the PnP connector are likely corroded or no longer exert enough pressure on the pins.

I had the same issue with one of my Depos, and after I crimped new pins onto the PnP adapter I haven't had any problems with the bulb burning out prematurely. Prior to redoing the wiring, I got maybe a day's worth of use out of one bulb, then it would burn out.
