I went out to my car in the garage last night to get something out of the front passenger seat. So, I clicked the unlock button and went inside got the item and noticed a soft hum like a fan or small motor. The fob did not get placed in the key slot. I just unlocked and opened a door. Car had been off for hours and the noise was definitely not there when I went out to the garage.

Was she purring at me inticipating a spirited drive? :-)

Any ideas? Not concerned in the least, just mildly curious.

I am not sure what it is but it is definitely normal. After you shut the car down, if you stay around for a while the car seems to go through several stages of electronic readiness before it finally shuts down completely. Since you opened a door it probably resets to a stage where something is running. I would not be concerned.

I have noticed the same thing. Like it does not like being put back into the garage. Wants to keep running. I have learned to ignore.

I think its the electric water pump, which runs after the car has been turned off.

It is actually the fuel pump, it engages after the key unlocks the car, you open the door or similar. It is in readiness for starting the vehicle. With the comfort pack hit happens when I touch the door to unlock.

Cool. It *was* purring! If the weather were better, I'd take her out on Lime Kiln Rd / Snickersville Pike to reward the enthusiasm! (Some of the best driving in Virginia).
