View Full Version : Where to go to get inspected?
Eusaphious 12-15-2007, 07:30 AM Wondered were you guys go to get your cars inspected. I used to just go any place that did it but that was with my camry. Alot of the places around here seem to have a bunch of punk kids employed there. Weird saying that as I am only 22. Anyway last place I took my camry to, kwik kar, I saw one of these guys nearly destroy this guys clutch. He must of had the engine at like 5k and just barely moving. The smell was just awful, and the bad part is no one at the shop said anything to get him to stop. I just dont trust those shops anymore.
exproject 12-15-2007, 11:52 AM I've actually found a good guy in a peculiar place.
Granted, it's not going to work for everyone with distance, but he is in Highland Village. At the intersection of Justin(407) and Highland Village Rd, at the gas station there. He was actually pretty knowledgeable on BMWs as well, he has owned an 850 and an E30, but he made the mistake of picking it up cheap and had to do all this work on it and then sold it when it got to be too much. Told me he had a lot of the specialized tools needed to work on them and if theres a problem with my mothers E34 to come to him.
Needless to say, I'll be going back to him for my future inspections.
Eusaphious 12-15-2007, 12:52 PM Im in N Arlington so its a bit of a drive but not to bad. I might go by sometime and check things out.
exproject 12-15-2007, 01:17 PM Before going so far, just shop around. Look in the shops in your area, look for seasoned guys.
Eusaphious 12-15-2007, 01:43 PM I prefer the small shops over chain places. I know a lot of good mechanics around here that work in those places. Only problem is they don't do inspections. Ill go talk to a few of the mechanics I know around here and see who they suggest.
Jonathan 90 M3 12-15-2007, 03:25 PM I take my E36 to Moritz. $40, I trust them alot more than the sketchy looking inspection shops in the area.

Didn't realize Mortiz does inspections. I am going up there to get drl turned off and trying to find someone there that can tell me if they can add the OBC features to my car.
SecretAznSauce 12-16-2007, 12:42 PM just go to the inspections only place on pioneer and collins
Steph328 12-16-2007, 01:12 PM There's a tiny place over on Collins near UTA right across from the HS (arlington high?) that is owned by a guy who lets his son and a few of his friends run it. Surprisingly, they are very respectful of customers and their cars, and they like to talk and learn more about what you're bringing in. The kid apparently hopes to take over the place one day and he's really trying to show that he's mature and responsible. Wes took the SRT-10 truck in there shortly after he got it to get it inspected in order to register it, and the guys were incredibly careful and just wanted to learn more about the truck. They also do detail work from what I understand. Wes is pretty picky and he was really happy with them.
elemental59437 12-16-2007, 05:01 PM A+ Motorbay in Plano off of 14th is really good. I've been going there for years and they do everything, bodywork/painting, inspections, and all mechanical work. Just had the M3 inspected there, need to take the Mazda there soon. Dino is the head mechanic/inspections guy. Its nice to have someone who knows more than just what they learned in HS shop class doing the inspection. Started going there with my first Mazda that I babied the hell out of since new and they are REALLY respective.
Irish03 12-18-2007, 07:09 PM I get the inspections done at Moritz, they are the same price as everywhere else and a BMW tech does the inspections, and they don't even hassle me about the tint (it's darker than in the pics).

I remember as a little kid my dad used to take the cars there, they have been there forever. Nice people.
