In liew of all these "My 325i beats turbo BMW's, and eats all honda stories". I decided to post my true and recent kill story with a buddies 4 door 325i STEPTRONIC.
The story..
Merging onto I-85N up in Atlanta, I was drivng my friends 325i with a K&N short ram and steptronic. He also bought my old wheels and I was getting a feel for it after the 18"s were installed, and for what an auto 325i feels like. As we pull up to the entrance ramp there was an obnoxiously loud silverado 1500 with corvette tail lights, slammed to the ground and quad pipes out the back. It was a 2003+ based on the front end. As the light turned green I already knew he was going to hit it so I had it in sport and mashed it right as he did. Right off the bat i jumped right on his ass, to slowly be pulled on the 1-2 shift by almost 1/3rd a car. Through the bottom of second I remained 1/2 car back until about 5000rpm when I slowly..slowly began to reel him in. Into 3rd my inexperienced passenger announced "were gaining on him a little bit!" At the end of 3rd I was passing by him to show him my sweet 325 badge from to his corvette posing, straight piped face. E46 325i FTW

good kill, that must have been a quick truck.

325i... not the fastest car in the world but i would have thought it would handle a truck better than that

good kill

Whats sad, I had a 2000 Silverado Z71 for a while. The truck was great when it rained and the roads were a bit slick. You could KILL anything up to about 70 in 4wd (unless it was an evo or sti or some other awd car) just because of how much grip advantage it had. I used to love playing with ricers stoplight to stoplight.

I was giving him the benefit of the doubt thank you.;)

Cars like the Silverado will be faster than most cars up to ~30-40mph because they are tuned for low-end torque and power.

For example, if I lined up against the truck in my Lotus and did NOT launch, it'd beat me to ~30-40mph.

If I launched, different story, but that's why cars like that are quick at low speeds.

E46 325's are pretty slow, but if you want to see slow, drive a 323i auto...:help

My pops has an 04' Z71 avalanche and it is neck-in-neck with my car from a 5mph roll till it hits the limiter (110mph I believe). Its a HEAVY truck though; not even funny when you punch it from a stop.

These things will surprise most cars in a quick 20-30mph punch with all that tourqe.

Before that he had a 00' Z71 silverado and that thing would PULL my car at any speed under 60mph. After that it would almost literally fall on its face.

I love tourqe :)

yeah trucks can be sleepers when it comes to racing. they have so much torque its insane.

haha yeah. The truck has good bottom end. It actually pulled on the 325i until 50 and i was ready in first and we hit it at the same time. This might be the first realistic E46 325i kill in a while

Maybe some trucks are quick right from a stop, but so many of their drivers think they are the fastest things on the road, especially the obnoxiously loud ones. For that reason alone, loud trucks are some of the most fun kills. Good work.

Yep. Yesterday I had some American truck (was dark out and I wasn't really paying attention) with a V8 go WOT as it passed me going the opposite direction in the city. He had an aftermarket exhaust. Sounded good, actually. He then had to promptly slam on his brakes (city traffic at rush-hour is teh suck), so I know he was just trying to make a show of it.

My father enjoys surprising ricers at stoplights.

He'll sit there as they rev, watch them take off with their fart cans, slowly trail, then say, "Just kidding." And punch it.

31lb of boost in a twin turbo 6.4L Diesel = ~650 ftlbs of torque ftw.

This is so ignorant. UGH. Trucks are not slow. Come out of your cave

^^^. Possibly true as the truck most likely had just loud quad exhaust to match its narley corvette tail lights.
