View Full Version : who has that aluminum flywheel from 74fj40 742002 12-13-2007, 06:28 PM Ireland engineering? is it worth the 475$ that you paid? visionaut 12-13-2007, 06:47 PM I do. It's actually the JB Racing unit. (BTW, it's a work of art, I had regrets 'hiding it' in the engine-tranny assembly!) I went for it when I just rebuilt the motor, and wanted to put in a beefier clutch too. I like it, and the improved feel in combo with my other mods. Is it worth it? - hard to say, everyone evaluates bang-for-the-buck differently. And some don't like the feel/drivability of a lightened flywheel... 74fj40 742002 12-14-2007, 12:05 AM Thanks Tom, do you have an album of pictures of your 02? I aspire after it, haha, but really you have a beautiful car. kpolito99 12-14-2007, 01:10 AM I do. It's actually the JB Racing unit. I used to have an old 215 from a Korman motor but had to upgrade to the larger size when I added the turbo. Pete McHenry from Salem, NC set me up with a great clutch kit that will supposedly withstand upwards of 380 ft-lbs before slipping. Needless to say, thus far I have not had any clutch slipping issues... .. . but I am hopeful that I can get closer to those numbers! visionaut 12-15-2007, 12:21 AM Kurt -- Yes, I went with the 228mm flywheel. Mated to a 228 tii clutch disk and an M3 pressure plate. Lots of hold, with normal pedal feel. And the standard 323i TO bearing (5-speed conversion). 742002 - thanks for the props. No, no photo album currently. Tom alp 12-17-2007, 03:08 AM was looking through the catalog for VAC and they offer a lightened flywheel also. No pictures or weights and theirs is $700!! http://www.vacmotorsports.com/cgi-bin/view_item.pl?item_id=22 alp 12-17-2007, 04:00 AM I found a pic of the VAC set up with a Tilton clutch pack. http://www.skidmarkracing.net/photos/index.php?id=103 steve k. 12-19-2007, 03:59 AM VAC's flywheel is about 3lb and i designed for 5.5" clutch. steve k. kpolito99 12-20-2007, 09:56 AM Kurt -- Yes, I went with the 228mm flywheel. Stealthauto 12-20-2007, 04:54 PM umm....I'm going to be buying a Alum. FLywheel from them soon my my engine build. I currently have a 215mm clutch...I'm restricted to a 38/38 carb and max power I might ever see is maybe 140hp....my current motor build should only produce "maybe" 120ish. Will 215 clutch be enough? I think so right? since 215 is smaller/lighter it might be good idea to keep it right? Pinepig 12-20-2007, 06:39 PM Did you install the 215mm or 228mm JB unit in your 2002? Info on where and how much for that clutch, mine has just about had it and I'd love something with a stock feel that can hold some HP. kpolito99 12-20-2007, 09:42 PM Info on where and how much for that clutch, mine has just about had it and I'd love something with a stock feel that can hold some HP. Really cannot remember the exact cost as it was purchased several years ago. I can provide Pete McHenry's contact info via PM if you are interested. Let me know. |
