I'm considering upgrading from a C43/CD Changer to a CD43 and buying it from a reputable source. Is it a very simple plug and play and, if so, could anyone provide step by step instructions (to include how to get rid of the CD changer)? My skills pretty much stop at oil and spark plug changes, but I'll only make the swap if I can do it myself.
Thanks.

Cory,

The install is as simply as removing your old radio and plugging in the new one. There are 2 flaps on the radio, each exposing a hex screw that must be loosened so the radio can pull out.

Once out, unplug the old radio and plug in the new one. :)

It actually is not. It is a pentagon(5 sided) and is extremely small. BMW or someone like the snap on guy has this.

You "can" use a hex but it you will have to use the smaller size and be VERY careful not to strip it or use the larger size and try to shove it in there.

I have gotten into way too many e36 with stripped out screws that even the OEM removal tool won't fit...

I'm very aware of the 5-sided tool, as a matter of fact, the new radios come with this tool as part of the package.

That will definitely help save the radio from getting stuck from stripped screws.

I was explaining that for users that go out and use a Hex and then come back and say it is stripped.

i used a small allen wrench when i installed the cd43 in my 91 m5, no issues whatsoever. So it can be done, just don't try to be king kong with the force.

It certainly can be done. In a pinch I have done it. Just don't want to over do it like you said.
