Does anyone on here know the stock specs of the e36 stereo systems. I mean the wattages, and speakers used. As well as if there is an amp under the seats somewhere? If there is an amp what is the wattage.

Paul at BSW 12-13-2007, 04:19 PM Your factory audio system does have an amplifier, which is located in the trunk on the left side behind the carpeted wall. It is a 10 channel amplifier that provides about 20 watts to each speaker. In the front doors you have a .75" tweeter and a 2.5" mid-range, you also have a 5.25" speaker in the kick panel. In the rear-deck you have a 4" speaker. The problem with upgrading the speaker system in an E36 [is that your factory amplifier has a separate channel for each individual speaker, and each of those channels will only play the certain frequencies that speaker was meant to play. This makes it very difficult to replace the factory speakers as not only will you have to match the speaker size but also the frequency response, resistance level, and efficiency, all of which are not standard. If you would like to improve your stock speakers, which is where you will gain the greatest audio improvement, we offer a Stage 1 speaker upgrade for your car. The Stage 1 upgrade is designed to work perfectly with your factory amplifier and at the same time improves the clarity and mid-bass response significantly. This upgrade will replace tweeter and mid-bass with speakers built by Rainbow to our specs, and will replace your mid-range with our own 2.5" upgrade. We also replace your rear 4” speakers with 6”x9” speakers, for improved bass response. There are two different versions of our Stage 1, the standard Stage 1 comes with Dream line Rainbow components which will provide rich smooth sound. The upgraded Stage 1 comes with IQ line Rainbow components which will be very precise and clear, and are capable of running off of an after-market amplifier with up to 70 watts of rms power, should you ever want to upgrade your stock amplifier. This will greatly improve the upper frequency response of the audio system. Here's a direct link. E36 mid-range and tweeter upgrade. On top of this the Stage 1 is not a slapped together system, we've put a lot of research into making this system and have used very high grade components, all to give our customers a great sounding BMW. Hope this helps with your decision and if you have any other questions feel free to PM/email me. |
