so i just bought a pair of alpine type r 12" 1000w subs off of craigs list for 100 bucks. i hooked them up at the guys house and i got a signal and they didnt seem like they were blown or anything so i headed home. when i got home and attempted to retune my amp for the new subs it seemed that the subs are either damaged ( which i highly doubt becyase there in great shape) or my amp is not supplying enough power :(. i currently have a kenwood kac-7202 max power 920w, 150w rms x 2 (4 ohm) and 230w rms x 2 (2 ohms). the subs ar 4 ohms each.

also a while back i blew my other 2 crappy subs so thats why i decided to upgrade to some name brand stuff. also when my blown subs were hooked up they played kind of the same, a lot lower then i thought they should have been, and they also crackled and had a smell of smoke. did those subs somehow damage my amp??

anyway is my amp just not powerful enough?? is there anyway i can get around this?

any help would be great,
thanks

heres some additional info

http://vault.alpine-usa.com/products/documents/OM_SWR-1242D.PDF

mine are the swr-1242d. according to the manual to run 2 subs on 1 amp i have to run them at 4 ohms?? what will happen if i have a stereo amp and wire each individual speaker to run at 2 ohms and connect one to the left out put and one to the right out put?? will this work???

again any help will be greatly appreciated

problem solved, i bridged my amp and ran them at 4 ohms each like the manual suggested and i got enough power to run them both. i think the other guy who had them before me was running each sub own its on amp. anyway the sounds is crystal clear and well worth the money
