Is there anyone out there that can tell if this tire fits without rubbing? I got a set of these that I was told were work on my 2002 540i, and I have had 4 places tell me that they will not mount them as they will rub. It is only slightly larger than the tire I have on their.

Can someone confirm this?

I could be wrong...but I don't see how that can rub...your OEM tire sizing could have potentially been 235/45R17 up front which has an overall diamter of 25.33 inches

A 225/50R17 is actually a more narrow tire than the 235...however given the aspect ratio is slightly larger overall at 25.86...but still...that's not much of a jump.

In short: Yes, they will fit without rubbing issues.
