View Full Version : Some Videos for Fun...
Damon in STL 12-12-2007, 04:19 PM For fun I put together a couple of vids from this past year and one from video I found from the late '80s (I think....due to the vid quality!). I was going to have these ready for our chapter's holiday party....but, we couldn't dine and dash out of my office party (same night) quick enough to get to the club party in time. Anyway, hope you enjoy them.

RacerX 12-12-2007, 07:00 PM Hey Damon,
Cool vids. When was that racing school (cuz I'm too lazy to look on the CR site)? Your car seemed faster than it might have been at Putnam when we ran together. Did you up the ante? ; )
Cheers.
Damon in STL 12-12-2007, 07:43 PM Jack,
The Club Racing School was somewhat of a spur of the moment thing. We decided to host it at our chapter meeting on Oct. 2 and then held it Nov. 2 & 3 of this year. We had five guys attend and then added some filler material!
The car is the same as at Putnam (stock motor)....I just really know GIR and know where I can safely push it...kinda like you and Simon at Putnam! :D

I should have known it was you. ; ) Good work man.
So any plans to up the ante over the winter? I'm sure I've asked you before.....
Cheers.
flexer 12-12-2007, 09:11 PM nice videos
RacerX 12-12-2007, 10:13 PM Once again too lazy to search....did you post your vids from Putnam earlier this year? I don't think I ever downloaded mine from the camera. I'm still using old skool digital 8mm. ; ) I'm sorta motivated though...that is unless my memory has failed and you already did it (and maybe me too).

Fun videos, thanks Damon

Hey Steve, LOL....just kidding! :)
I took some "Artistic License" and added in a little embellishment here and there to add to the excitement and drama of the video.... :cool
But, I must admit....I was working my ass off trying to keep up with you! :D
Jack, no real big plans. I'm now somewhat thinking along a similar path as you, except I'll be going JP/GTS2 this year while still keeping the stock cams and brakes (just in case I run with SCCA in ITR).
Are you going to do the NASA races here at Gateway in late April? A number of us from St. Louis are also talking about running the NASA Enduro at Autobahn in July.
I think the only video I posted from Putnam was my "short cut" ;) And, maybe a lap or two before that when we were running together. Do you have any vid of us running together?
Oh, and I need to get a couple of things from you. That's a great price you have on the fire suppression system! I'll be in touch soon.

Yeah, my motor will be stock except for one planned upgrade. I just don't want to mess with the motor next year, I'm focusing on the chassis/suspension.

I'd love to but I think the chances of my M3 being done in April are at best a pipe dream. I'm realistically aiming for June. I plan to run as many enduros as possible next year but not in the M3. I'll run the rental SpecE30 most likely. I think the enduro at Autobahn is as sure as it can be right now.

I thought for sure I did but I cannot find anything right now....I'll keep checking.

Gimme a shout offline. Cheers man.

We did the one this year (Simon/JVH/SSBurns in Simon's SE30) and it was fun but a really small field. I believe it was 12 cars but according to B. Cohn it was a larger field than the first one, this was the second enduro in the NASA Midwest region apparently. Anyway the rules for pitting are different than BMW CR which at the very least it's refereshing for me. The fastest car there (Porsche 993) really goofed up their stop and ended up in 4th or 5th place because of it. Hopefully I can make it to the one next year as well and I'll probably be driving my car either in HPDEsomething or TT.
Carlos.

No, you'll be codriving. Quit dryhumping the license process, just do it.

That is the perfect metaphor for Carlos!

We'll see, I don't want to be "that guy" out on the track that decides to go racing before he's ready (like the CM guy in the Roebling thread) and be the rolling chicane for everyone. Besides aren't you the one radioing to me during NASA races, "I'm bored." Yeah that'll get me racing. :D
Carlos.

Carlos.
There is a big difference between being a noob running a bit slower and being a constant rolling roadblock. I think the guy in the other thread was a noob in that car if it's who I think it is. But I don't know anything about his driving skills anyway. Point being, you're not getting any faster sitting there. I told you before, you're ready to go racing you just need gear, a license, and to get your azz in a race!
Bud Scott 12-13-2007, 02:07 PM My POS-7 was really pushing in the oval that day for some reason..............
Now I remember the reason................there was a black blur beside me and I wanted to see how it handled!
Not to get Damon's thread too far off track, but I have enlisted a corps of "umbrella girls" for support at the enduro in July at Autobahn. My daughters and their wonderful, college coed friends have volunteered to take care of us!
Bud Scott 12-13-2007, 02:13 PM And another thing Damon! Where's my check for appearing in the video segments here. I feel so used!

College coeds, hmm instead of umbrella girls enlist them to crew for you guys. The grid for the enduro is way far from the pits so it is important that they be in the pits not grid. :D

Carlos,
Go ahead and get it. "It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it."
Also there will probably(tentative @ this time) be 3 hour enduros at the NASA April Mid-Ohio, June Grattan, and probably a 2 hour at the Aug. Road America events. If you don't get your license you may miss out on some co-driving.

Damn you guys are like drug dealers. Co-driving in a 3-hr race does sound really cool and something that motivates me especially at tracks that I already know fairly well. Racing my own car sometimes doesn't appeal to me especially when I think about the stuff that breaks and I start to lose interest, but co-driving I don't have all the responsibility (no towing) and I can just drive up in the 5er not in a rattle trap that rides like a rock and do a Milka Duno type of stint. Drive for 1/2 hour and let the fast guys handle the rest. :D
Hmmm...
Carlos.

All kidding aside, dude, how many times have I told....get your license and then you at least have an opportunity to codrive. If you want, and it's ready, to race your own car then great. But with no license you'll be hanging out with college coed crew. Wait, there's proper motivation in there somewhere....
Dude just get your friggin' license already! If you'd applied even the 3rd time I told you to do it you probably could have codriven in a race this year!

Carlos, I can just see it now...you sitting with Bud in his paddock area... nice and comfy in recliners...you've got the one girl holding the umbrella...the other with the fan...and the third feeding the two of you grapes....:D

Yeah, and racing makes a heroin addiction look like a mild craving for salty foods.......
:)

Jim Bassett 12-13-2007, 05:36 PM Jack speaketh the truth. :) I got my license and begged friends to let me co-drive in enduros until I was able to buy the current race car. Just do it!
Carlos: You will be slow and somewhat of a chicane in your first few races no matter WHEN you start. It's a whole new learning curve, no matter how many HPDEs you've done. The only way to get faster/better at racing is to go racing! If Jack says you're ready, then you're ready. But be prepared to feel like a novice student all over again. But the plus side is that it is SO much more fun than HPDE-ing that your friends will get tired of seeing you with the stupid grin on your face :D
"Quit dryhumping the license process" :lol

Hey Bud, I seem to recall you offering to put together a "crew" for me should I return to your neck of the woods. Does that include the umbrella girls!:stickoutt
Bud Scott 12-13-2007, 09:27 PM I have first hand knowledge that two of them speak Canadian. And can change a tire!
