So I transferred my Parrot CK3000 bluetooth handsfree kit from my old 528i to my 540i. In the 528i, the kit worked flawlessly and would mute the radio as well as cd changer/aux sound when a call would come in.
For some reason, using the same direct-fit wiring harness in the 540i (and from what I could see essentially identical factory plugs) I can only use the bluetooth handsfree when the head unit is switch to FM/AM radio. When it's on CD changer/Aux I don't get any sound from the unit.
Any ideas why this might be so? One thing to note is that my 540i has DSP and my 528i did not.

I am curious, in your original configuration, was it connected to the BMW speakers and mic? Did the steering wheel controls work? I have been looking for a replacement to the BMW cellphone that will use the features that the car offers.

In both I am using the mic that the kit came with and am using a direct fit harness to have the sound go through the factory speakers. The steering wheel controllers don't work - however you can get an add-on unit for the CK3000 that allows you to use the phone button and such on the steering wheel.

Does your 540i have after market speakers? If so, it could be possible that the speakers are not wired to the phone system. I installed after market speakers in my 528i, and it had two sets of wires going to the speakers. The second set is for the phone. I don't have them attached to the speakers now.

The DSP system is to blame for your issue. The cd changer sends an audio signal directly to the amplifier and not up to the factory radio like you non-dsp changer did. So when the parrot interrupts the audio signal from the factory radio when a call comes in and you're listening to the cd-changer then the dsp-amplifier ignores the signal because its not expecting one from the radio.
The only recommendation I have that would solve this problem is for you to connect the parrot's mute wire to a relay on the amp turn-on wire, and purchase an external speaker for the parrot and but it somewhere under your front dash.
Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

Ah - ok thanks for the great explanation. That totally makes sense.
I may actually just rip the goddamn thing out and sell it - it's a fun toy but using it for the past year I've noticed that just a dongle would actually be better in a lot of ways...
