I'm interested in installing remote door locks in my wife's 99 M3 convertible. Jason from BSW indicated that there is an aftermarket kit that is a plug in and is relatively easy to install. Just wondering if anyone has actually installed this system.

Note: I called the dealership where I bought the car and they indicated that this car is not wired for remote door locks and that they would not do the installation.

Any information is appreciated.

That is false, the 99 M3 is pre wired for a remote keyless entry along with an alarm. I actually did this install on my m3. Search ebay. You need a system with a 2 button key fob. There is a plug under the hood for the siren and the kit plugs in behind the glove box.

There are some aftermarket kits that work the same way. There is however an OEM kit that will install and work. I haven't personally confirmed this on a 99 Coupe so I would assume Sedan/Vert would be the same.

a simple, standard oem alarm system plugs right in to the port.

call a different bmw dealership, the one you called hired idiots.

Correct I installed a remote/alarm in my 97 M3. It was really simple and plug and play.

Great. Thanks alot guys. I think I'll give it a shot. The kit offered by Bavarian Auto sells for $150+/-. Does any one know the cost of the OEM kit?

Then there is the programming. You have to lock unlock, roll up the passenger window 53% and tap your head 3 times while opening and closing the trunk with your right arm.

After 10-15 tries it will work :)

I need to find the guide for programming. I think I deleted it off my computer after I got it to work.
