Is upgrading to this tire spec something I can do on a 1996 318i? I am considering buying one and would like to use the set of Michelin X-Ice that I have for my old car on the 318. Anyone have any thoughts? Also, I would likely be buying a set of new summers in the spring.

That sidewall is gonna be huge. Leave that tire on the e38! I don't think it would fit.
