hello, sorry if this has been answered and sorry for disturbing you if you can not help me.

About 5 months ago I bought a 1986 BMW 528e. I am in the process of doing an interior restore as half the pieces where missing when I bought this car. I went out and bought a 88 528e for parts.

The questions I have at this point are, above the passanger front speaker there was originally a clicking noise, I found the culprit, and replaced it. it is a rectagular black box with an 11 pin connector to it. On it it says,

Kiekert 465 (BMW LOGO) 61.31 1 376 307.1

Both cars has the same box and numbers on it.

what is this box and what would/does it do.

On the knee panel, there is a button on the right side just below the driving wheel, what does this do, and then there is a sensor on the left side at the very bottom of this panel, what exactly does this sensor do.

Thank you for your help if you can answer,
Narcussist

Button is a circuit breaker for all 4 windows. Push it and your windows won't work, push it again and the are back in bizne$$.

Sensor that you see should have a vacuum line connected to to it that comes from the engine compartment as well as molex connector. It is interior temperature sensor.

are you talking about the button on the shifter middle console, between the front and rear window button, or the one on the knee panel just right of the steering column?

what does this sensor do? does it regulate for the heater/AC unit?

The the control unit for the central locking(power locks)

so then if my doors do not lock, either the doors them self or this control unit is bad. Only time I can get the doors to lock is if I manually lock them, or use the key, but it will not automatically lock by themselves

and so far thank both of you again for explaining on what these are. I am sure I will have more questions once I start doing the OBC, and the rest of the other interior.

Shifter console button between front and rear driver's side windows kills rear windows so your kids won't fall out, one on the
kick panel by your right knee kills them all (buttons that is).

Correct.

You mean all 4 doors won't lock if you try to lock them with your key from driver's/passenger's door? We need more details here.

That is correct, they will not lock all 4 automatically. I thought maybe it would lock them from the key, from doing a certain speed limit, or just pushing one of the locks to lock and then they all lock.

Only way to lock all four is to manually lock each one individually.

then your central locking is out. they all should un/lock if you un/lock one from the outside for exapmle (i think)
