Has anyone tried? It'd be awfully nice to be able to get decent high beams in an E36.

or you could just get some 55w HID

Since half of my use for high beams is to flash other drivers, that would kind of defeat the point.

The high beams on the Euro lights are awesome, not really sure why you would require more.

I do however have Bosch, and maybe that makes the difference.

well depo highs suck

but anyways, if you just need them to flash people, why would you go through the hassle to retrofit better ones in there...they are fine for that use;)

As has been mentioned before the easiest way to do this is to add bi-xenon on the low beams which couple with your hi beams and work well. When you flash the diverter that is what keeps your low beams low, moves out of the way providing full illumination.
There are many write ups on this at HID Planet. If you go this path you will replace the current projectors with bi-xenon ones and also will need to build a circuit of buy it to prevent the solenods from burning out. See the site I mentioned to get the real scoop.

You can flash because it doesn't turn the low beams to high but moves the diverter out of the way and also powers the high beam halogens....

My solution is fx35 bi-xenon in conjunction with the terrible highbeams on depo's (Both my e34's and e36's depo's had terrible high beams)

Should get the projectors in a few days... hopefully have it all hooked up after this weekend maybe?

ZKWs aren't very good, either. Sadly, I can't quite bring myself to spring for the Bosches. :)

Honestly, I think a good part of it is that the US used 9005 bulbs. These are a bit brighter than H1s.

just plan that it wont all go as planned....but good luck on it

be sure to post up pics along the way, as a lot of us have done this and may be able to help if you are stuck on something

I would say that is a great choice. I love my fx35 bi-xenons :buttrock

Then what if you used H1s for the high beams? Is that an option? Not sure, but if they are just a little dimmer than the US high beams, then that could improve things.

Not sure if it helps, but on the Bosch's, we use H1 bulbs for lows and highs.

All euro fixtures use H1 high beams. IMHO, that's part of why they suck.
