View Full Version : Going to Italy,France+ summer08. What events/series/venues to try to go to?
luv4myE36 12-09-2007, 11:38 PM We got a call from a relative in France who wants us to go visit this summer and so decided that if we go, we're killing 2 birds with one stone and visiting family in Sicily(which was already tentatively planned for summer 08) and spending 2+weeks in a car covering at least those 2 countries most likely in July or August.
Anybody know anything I should try and get to while I'm there.
If not an event in particular, what's a series i should look into?
the preferred area would be Italy and France but could possibly be extended to Spain, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Right now I'm going to look into F1, LMS, ETCC, MotoGP and WRC.
Let me know guys,
Many thanks in advance
JClark 12-09-2007, 11:58 PM Got a date? That'd narrow things down.
JuliusPleaser 12-10-2007, 11:42 AM Spa, Monza, Imola, Jerez, Silverstone, Donington, Nurburgring, Magny Cours, and LeMans.
Start with those venues.

no idea yet, we only decided on july or august. if there's something exciting going on,we could schedule around that.
Spa, Monza, Imola, Jerez, Silverstone, Donington, Nurburgring, Magny Cours, and LeMans.
Start with those venues.
i think silverstone and donnington are going to be too far away
monza, imola and the Ring are on the list.
theres a big 24hr. at the ring in mid august which might be pretty cool
bmwretard 12-10-2007, 04:00 PM Nurburgring for SURE. Between the track, the towns, and the Castle, there is a TON of cool history to discover. Stay in the RingHaus hotel, Martin (part-owner/operator) is a great guy and will help you out with lots of useful information. He's happy to give rides in his Euro E36 M3 too :) If you're in a rental car, be aware that there might be a clause in the rental contract that exempts the Nurburgring from insurance coverage. If you're going to drive on it, memorize the track in GT4...it helps alot.
Also, if you want an absolutely gorgeous german town to explore, Cochem is really close to the 'Ring and would make a great day trip for females/relatives not interested in the Nurburgring.

ciffy107bmw 12-10-2007, 04:04 PM This seriously makes me want to go to Germany. Take alot of pictures so we could see them all when you come back.
And there is only a few German words you need to know "Bier, bitte" and/or "Weis bier, bitte." Oh and danke.

LexdiamonNYC 12-11-2007, 09:01 AM RingTaxi, get on the list right now!!!!!!..........(probably already full, but doesn't hurt to try....)
ArticM3 12-11-2007, 12:20 PM It depends on dates and your itenerary. Are you trying to stay in the South of Europe? If so, the Circuit de Paul Richard is just north of Nice in the Cote d'Azure. This is Bernie's baby and is used to test F1 and to host FIM races. Outside of that, Corsica hosts the Rallye de France, Barcelona hosts the Rally du Catalunya. Not sure where they plan on putting the Gran Prix de France, but Paul Richard seems a likely choice. Then there is Monte Carlo, 24 heures de Man in June, Imola, Monza, the F1 race in Spain (Barcelona or Jerez next year... not sure why I can't remember this). Spa or the Nurburgring would be awesome if you plan to head in the Germany/Belgium (apparently they are about an hour apart).
For a bit of personal fun, try the Stelvio Pass... or re-enact portions of the Mille Miglia. Or the Route Napolean!

I actually just did a presentation on the mille miglia, and thought, how sick would that be to drive!
